How Many Mylot Users Play Darts?

I'd be interested to know how many of you play darts, and if you do, which country you're in. I'm in England, and am Secretary and Captain of the local Pub's Dart Team. I don't play as much as I used to because I contracted RSI in my wrists, and never was the same again. In my younger days, we used to have an In-House Tournament at a local Social Club, where I won the Women's Cup for 8 years on the trot. That's my best run, but I have a few other trophies. Mainly, now though, I let the guys play. I've lost the magic, and they are so much better than me. I did play in a doubles game recently, where I scored 2 x 100 and shot double in once and out twice. lol. Gave me the shock of my life. My highest ever in-shot is double 18, treble 18, 4, equalling 94 and my highest out shot was treble 18, 20, bullseye. lol, totalling 124. Yeah... shocked me too! I was rooted to the floor with my mouth wide open. ha ha ha. Please tell me about your darts play experiences. I love the game.

I love playing darts but unfortunately don't have the opportunity to play any more. Once when I was on secondment at work they had a darts team, and one of their players had gone sick and they asked me to step in which I gladly did. I hadn't played for years but when I went head to head with another player I needed double 16 and that's always been my favourite and easiest double to get and sure enough I hit double 16, winning the match for my team. The other side kicked up a fuss because I had won, different I had lost, but because I had won the match I wasn't allowed to step in again, I was really annoyed. I put my name down as a substitute but never got the opportunity to play again. I love watching a good darts match on television and love seeing 180 scored.

Wow.. it sounds as though you're a handy player. The new, up and coming, Crafty Cockney? lol. I like to watch it on the television sometimes. I used to like John Lowe but don't see him much these days, since he crossed to the big league. Andy (The Viking) Fordham is my favourite now. I was a bit upset when he was taken ill a couple of days ago, and had to forego his Championship chances. Get well soon Andy! Thank you for your response. I found it very interesting and good luck with your darts.

Hi there,I play darts too in a local pub and association. I've been playing for about a year and a half. I just played in a local Unicorn Tournament about 3 months ago. Well, I lost the game, 3 sets in a row during the knock-outs. I was pretty nervous as it's my first tournament. My opponent was like playing for 10 years. He checked me with 12 darts in the 1st set that made me lost all my confidence. It's like damn, how the hell am I gonna beat this guy when I can't even get close to his scores. I kept telling myself, "Don't lose it here, not now, not today". I played a better round during the 3rd set but still that guy checked me with a treble 20, 20 and a double 20. I just told myself I'll do better next year. I wouldn't be nervous if it wasn't a tournament. Maybe I wanted to win so much that made me lose it. I'm preparing myself for the next tournament. My highest check out was treble 20, treble 17 and a double 15 that made it 141. So far, I've only did 180 once, that's like a year ago when I was playing with my friend when I just started. Most of the people in the pub was cheering for me. I was so happy that I lost grib of the darts and it poked my feet as I was wearing a sandal. Hehehe... Ermm... I'm the youngest player in my local darts association. I'm 22 this year. What about you? Hope you won't mind sharing your experience with a young player like me.. Cheers mate...

Hi.. I think it's great that darts is played all around the world. It seems that in some parts of Malasia it's more popular than others. I'm impressed with your story. That was unlucky in the Unicorn Tournament. It's not difficult to go to pieces when you're playing in such a match. All eyes are on you, and once you get behind, you tend to get a bit flustered, and if your opponent checked out in 12 darts, I wouldn't think you got a very good go at the first game. 141 is a class checkout, and not many amateur darts players score 180 more than once or twice a year. I think I've only managed it once, and I've been playing for years. I can score 100 easily enough but when I've got two in the treble twenty, I tend to get uptight and throw the next in treble 5 or 5. lol. I too have had a dart in my foot so I can sympathise with you there, but there was a slight difference... I didn't drop it in my foot, somebody else did. It's funny when you look back on it, but it wasn't so funny at the time. When I pulled the dart out of my foot, there was a fountain of blood came with it! It didn't hurt though. Now, now... you shouldn't ask a woman her age, but I'm a little bit older than you.. that's all I'm divulging. lol. I really enjoyed your story. You put a lot of effort into that. Thank you. I'm giving you best response.

I just play once and a while with my friends when we go out. We will usually play cricket or 401. I am ok at darts as long as i don't use the bar darts
@Darkwing (21583)

I like playing Cricket, Laura, and Halve It. When you play 401, how do you play it... double in, double out, or straight in?

Deeeky... it's a shame you gave the game up, because of cut in drinking. Do you miss the game, or does pool fill in for you? I play a bit of pool as well, but they took the pool table out of our pub about 18 months ago. :-( However, the dart board, and dart team survived, so I can't grumble to much! lol. Couldn't you drink Pepsi whilst playing darts?

If I played darts whilst drinking coca cola the balance would be all wrong and my aim would suffer and be detrimental to the teams finishing outcome, not to mention they might not let be back in the team again.

Yes, a lot of good darts players come out of the USA. Where do you play darts, because the person above you in this list loves the game, but has nowhere to play. You might be able to give her some advice? She is in the USA as well. Also, does your professional friend play in the World Darts Competitions... is he that professional, and if so, what is his name... I might know of him. I'm pleased to see that darts has produced some good players around the world. I love the game. :-)

This really is scary, Darkwing. Yet another thing we have in common (well, sort of). We'll certainly have to meet up for that cuppa next time I'm in England. I love playing darts and did a bit of it when I was working, but that is 47 years ago. Whenever I went back to England for holidays, staying with my brother, I played a lot and had loads of fun. I'm no champion at darts, but I held my own with some experienced players at my brother's home. The main thing is that I really enjoyed it.

Wow... it's interesting that you have darts leagues in Greece, and that it's popular in the pubs, as well. Until I posted this discussion, I hadn't realised how many countries played it. I'm amazed. Thank you so much for your response. Bright Blessing and Happy Darting! :-)

I've played it with my family or friends but just for fun, I don't have much practise on it but I don't play it often so I think it's normal to don't have proper techinique.

That's ok, just for fun. I see you're in Portugal, Ownado. That's another country to add to the growing list. Thank you for your response and I hope you win a few games, when you play with your family.

Hi Darkwing, I have not played darts very much in my life at all, not very good aim, and usually the darts come flying back out or I miss! My friend has an electronic dartboard which has a magnetic thing on the end rather than a dart itself, I find it much easier to use that. I think my highest score ever is probably about 40.. Hehe But I suppose practice would make perfect well a bit better!
@Darkwing (21583)

Yes, definitely practice helps, Bizzie. Remind me not to be anywhere near Exeter when you decide to do so, though! ha ha ha

@Darkwing (21583)

Hi mel! It's good to meet you, especially if you're like your Mum. :-) Yes, RSI is painful. I had accupuncture treatment and mine's a lot better but every so often the pain comes back. It doesn't matter whether you're good at darts or not, if you enjoy the game. It's quite nice to play casually, with a friend... there's no nerves. lol. Thank you for your contribution. Brightest Blessings.

That's a very good age to start. There was a young lad of 12 used to play in our league, but his team withdrew a couple of seasons ago. He was a great little player, and will go places if he persists in playing. I guess you didn't like it too much, or the facilities are not so great in India?

I play darts only once in a blue moon. Not really good in this sport,but it's a mind game too I guest.

8 Jan 07
Another person from Malaysia. Welcome... this is great. It sounds as though you enjoy the game, so once in a blue moon is a start. It's not so much a mind game as you need to be able to do some mental arithmetic so you know what you need to aim for. It's good if you can work that out as you throw, so as not to interrupt your throwing rhythm when stopping to think about it. Thank you for responding... it's very interesting to know how many corners of the world the game of darts is played. I'm suitably impressed! :-)

you can set up an interest named "dart", so anyone who like dart or play dart will join this topic.. everyone can share their experiences and skills how to play dart under the topic "dart". I played dart two years ago when I was in college, but I am not good at it, so I quit at last...
@Darkwing (21583)
8 Jan 07
Thank you for your response. I would love to start a thread re. darts, but not sure how. Perhaps you could advise me? I wish you had kept it up. China has to make a real show in the darts world yet. Maybe you could have been the one to start the trend?

Wow... Romania as well? That's fantastic. It's so good to hear that so many countries participate in the game, and enjoy it. It matters not how good you are but the mere fact that you love the game, and play regularly, will turn you into a good player with time. Keep practicing... and bring Romania into the World Darts Championships! :-)
