Daughter's job at Walmart

My daughter got let go. The reason was because she was only a temp. They never told her that when they hired her. They said she would become a part-time employee at the firt of the year.
They only let her and one other go and everyone else that was hired as a temp got moved up to part-time.
She was only there for a month. How cruel. She enjoyed the job and liked working.
The dumb thing is they still have their help wanted sign up. Now she can't reapply for six months.
I told her to go find a job where they actually want her. She's really good at working. I think it's because she loves the money. LOL.

They did the same to my niece just before Christmas. She worked only 2 weeks and then they changed her schedule to one she couldnt get a babysitter for - they told her to show up or quit. She had to quit and became very depressed. She had been looking for a job for a year.

This may end up being for the best. WalMart doesn't seem like it's the best of employers anyway - it would be better to work somewhere where she could maybe move up, or eventually make more.

That really stinks that your daughter got let go and right during the holiday season. I am not surprised as Walmart has done some very shady things in the past and would not trust a word that came from their mouths. They were the same ones that got in trouble for hiring illegal immigrants here on the east coast and other locations. I think something suspicious is going on there but hope your daughter can find a better job where they will be honest and treat her better and with respect.

She's thinking about working at Hy-Vee or shopko. Now that she has some experience under her belt it shouldn't be to hard for her.
It will work out for her.

She should eally be glad not to be there anymore, They would find many ways to treat her poorly in the long run.

That's what I told her. She is applying for a dishwasher/cook job at the nursing home here in town. They even pay more. Just so they work around her sports schedule.

Walmart hires a lot of temps around the holidays and then after that, they always end up letting go of a few temps and keeping some as well.
Your daughter was just one of the temps they let go.
I don't know why they didn't tell her that she was a temp though. Usually they do. My friend works at Walmart and he says they always hire a lot of people around this time and then let them go, but they are always informed that they are temps and then after the holidays they keep the ones they think deserved it and worked hard.

If Walmart don't want to keep her she should try and speak to the higher up as to why they let her go and try to convince them in hiring her back before she goes and looks for another job.

Thats wal-mart for ya. My husband worked at Wal-mart in Cali when we were still there. He worked there 5 years and loved his manager and stuff there. When we got here to SC he had transferred and well had to take a cut in pay and well this walmart didn't care for it's employees like the one he came from. Needless to say he quit. He's much happier and makes twice what he made at wal-mart. Wal-mart in the past year has made a lot of changes and jack a lot of people around. He still has friends on the inside and they keep him posted on whats going on and he is glad he left when he did.

Better to work at a place where we are wanted, rather than hang on at a place where we are not wanted.
The American system of hiring and firing needs to be looked into. I wish that at least the employers should have the courtesy of pre-cautioning workers with whom they are not satisfied and whose services they are likely to dispense with. They lose nothing by giving an opportunity to a person to rectify and improve, whereas they gain goodwill of the concerned employees and public image will not be impaired.

Walmart does not have the greatest reputation for treating employees correctly, there are lot of info out there on the web etc. Hopefully, she finds something soon. I work at temp job last year with a bigger employer than Walmart, and they told us it will be about 6 to 12 months. I worked 3 months then I was let go subject to recall. I am afraid a lot of employers just use their employees.

Wal Mart did the same thing to me around 2 years ago. They always do that around the Holiday Season because of Christmas Shoppers, they tell you what you want to hear so you will stay, and then BAM! You are gone. My advice, don't ever work for Wal Mart again. I don't even shop there anymore. Ever since Sam Walton passed away years ago, that company has went downhill bad. Employees are getting there wages cut, prices are going up, and so much more. Waltons don't run that company. It's nothing but money hogs.

I've had that happen to me more than once. And still to this very day I can't help but be a little angry or frustrated afterwards.. I think that an employer should be telling an employee that right off the bat.. Especially if they are just hiring you for the time being or for the mean time.. I mean just when you think everything is going alright they will just tell you right out of the blue that they have to let you go.. They don't even really give you a full warning.. And what's even more frustrating is one you actually enjoy your job & that happens. I don't know for me personally it makes me think differently of the company in general..
I am sorry to hear that had happened to your daughter.. Especially since from the sounds of it she really did enjoy working there.. But it is truly there loss if she was such a hard worker.. And someday she'll find a job where an employer really does appreciate all of the hard work she does around the place she is employed by.
It's nice to hear that she has someone as supportive as you to encourage her & be there for her during all of this.. I hope your daughter finds a job where they appreciate her.. I wish her all the best.

I've always heard bad things about this particular chain of shops. The stories suggest they treat their workers really badly and also have some appallingly unethical purchasing strategies. Ok, they may fill the shelves cheaply, but that all comes at a cost to workers in developing countries many of which are forced to sell at a high discount to the big stores becausethey cannot get the sales volumes otherwise. The world needs ethical employers and retailers, not money grabbing impersonal barns full of tat.

I`m sorry your daughter was let go. I hope she does not feel down about it. walmart has strange rules. I applied there to work for Christmas. they had a sign up that they were hiring. they never hired me and the help wanted sign is still up. makes no sense.

How unfortunate. Good for her to like working. It seems kind of odd that since they told her she would be part time at the first of the year and still have their help wanted sign up that they'd let her go.
If I were her I would of got the agreement in writing. As I have learnt to do from past similar circumstances. Or better yet, take someone with her to the interview and ask alot of questions regarding terms of hiring.
This way you have a witness if they do what walmart did to your daughter.
Problem is, an employer by law, can let an employee go without much of a reason muchless a real one. If entitled, they must pay severence however, otherwise you have grounds for an employment standards complaint.

Due to the holiday season most companies assume that when they hire employees in the months of October through December that they automatically know they are seasonal. My daugher is going through the same thing at the moment. She was hired by Kohls department store in October and loves her job. Unfortunately they are not telling anyone as of yet who is staying and who is going.
Tell your daughter not to even bother getting upset. There are plenty of good jobs who need hard workers like her. Best of luck to her.
