Just wondering does anyone go to the library anymore. In our local library there is the resource center, the computers, the hundreds of books, movies, and newspapers in the archives that people come in to browse through and rent. There's a few comfortable chairs, so many interests, you can learn a new language, and look through the computer catalog of thousands of materials: romance, sci-fi, history, religious or just to sit and relax. Did you know that when the library came into existance you would have to travel miles just to sit by the fireplace and learn how to read a good book. Due to fast technology in the world the idea of going to the library has changed tremendously, does anyone wish to share about their experience of going to the library.

Nice discussion! This made me remember my college days where I needed to go to the library for some researches especially for our term paper. We frequent our city public library during those times as we needed to have different reliable resources. But since I graduated, I haven't gone there... :P well, I find surfing the net a lot faster and could definitely save me time if i wanted to research about something.

That's very true, I also use the internet for research at home for lots of things, but once in a while there's nothing like reading a good book. Thanks for your response.

More support should be given to the local libraries. Some people couldn't tell you were the local library is in there area. I sometimes have to go to the library because I no longer have the enternet at home. I have to go to a friend, family members or the library to have access. There are a great deal of resources at the library that many people don't take advantage of. Our library has rooms available for conferences as well. Why spend so much money on a fancy place to have a meeting where you can help the community by using one at the library? I think parents should take their kids to the library more. I think alot of kids think the library is only in the school. We have play groups and reading groups for kids starting from early age. It's great to get books on tape from the library as well for those who seem to busy.

Some of the librabies have amazing resourses for research, I recently went to my State library to get print outs of newspapers from the 60's, first I had to go through a lot of micro fiche which was very interesting then order page prints....I was very happy...

That really is truly amazing. Thanks for your comments. The library really has come a long way, but in a seemingly short span of time, considering this is the 21st century.

I haven't gone to the libary since I was in college, about five years ago. I don't really need to, as I can get most of the inforamtion that I am looking for online. However, I do think that I am going to start soon. In our local paper, I saw that they were going to start this reading program for preschoolers in a few weeks. I think that my daugther would love it.

It's true, the internet has a wealth of knowledge at our fingertips, but I'm glad that the library has something for children to get them interested in reading as well, which is really important for their education. Thanks for your response.

I just came back from our local library and was wondering the thing!!! :) I acutally went to pick a couple of books I put on hold (recommendations from a friend on mylot actually) I enjoy libraries, I attibute that fact to my Mother who such a thrist to learn and grow and she past her love of books and learning on to all her children, I have always had a library card in every city I have lived. I believe that the Libraries across the nation are doing a wonderful job of keeping up with the technology of information, growing or evolving with demands and needs of the people, it's so encouraging that people especially Children, young adults, college students have there resources available at no cost to them. Best wishes ;)

I love going to the library!! It is such a great resource for people looking to read a variety of books without spending tons of money on buying them. When I was a kid I loved going to the library - we would go every couple of weeks and I still love it!!

We go to the library at least every few weeks. DS (15 months) loves to pick out new books, and I try to get one to read when I have a couple free minutes. I think it's a great place to learn to love books. I know they have all of the other media stuff now, but there's nothing like browsing through all those books to find the perfect escape.
