I am thinking about sponsoring a child in a third world country.

I have always wanted to do this. When I was in junior high school, we sponsored an orphan in India. We raised the money by collecting change at lunch time from kids in the cafeteria. Everyone was always willing to help even if it was a few cents. It added up to enough each month. Right now my family are not in a position to do this, but someday I want to. I have two sons of my own, as well as a stepson and a stepdaughter but they are almost all grown. I would like to sponsor a little girl, maybe in Kenya or wherever there might be a greater need. This has always been one of my personal dreams.

I would love to also sponsor a child in a foreign country or even adopt one. As I was going up I always would see on tv little child needing help for food education and clothes. That have caused me to become drawn and obligated to help. When I am in the position to one day afford it, I really would like to help alot of needy children all over the world.

That is so awesome. When funds allow, I think you should go for it!

Wow, this is a very nobel idea you have. If everyone thinks and acts like you then ther wont be any one left in this world without anyone to look after them. We all should try to do though minimum, whatever we can do for others sake and inturn help ourselves.

Hi i really admire you. It is really great to thnk about helping others. I also agree with you. To help one person in need for his education and then helping him become a good citizen is a great job. Atleast there will be oneless uneducated person. Even we here in our college have the same type of group which collects fund for sponsoring needful children with their education.

My husband and I sponsor a little boy in Chile through World Vision International. It's really not that expensive, and we love hearing about all the progress he has made in school and such. He also makes us a Christmas card each year. I really think it's one of the most rewarding things a person or family can do!

I would sponsor a child in a thrid world country if they were not taught religion at the same time.
Those organizations that have a religious name, like christian childrens fund or others, seem to be after more christians by creating a greatful population. I think it is terribly manipulative and refuse to support the activity.

There are non religious organizations. If you were to study what they and the religious ones do, you would find out they actually do help the children. The fact that the people they help are actually grateful seems to bother you. The fact is that all religions are after more converts, so that would negate to me your argument whether or not the organization would be Christian. I'm really sorry you are so bitter for whatever reason you might have, enough that it would cause you to totally shut out any organization that wants to help people.

You really have a good heart. I thought of that too, but I think sponsoring a child isn't as simple as donating money, but also taking the responsibility as he's your own child, right? Currently, I'm not ready for this yet, I'll make this as one of my plans in future. If there are more caring people as you, the world will be nicer. ^_^

This is not a child that you ever come in physical contact with, as I understand it. As the process of sponsoring is financed by someone like you or me, I believe the actual caretaking of the child is seen to by the organizations you pay. They provide for the child to be seen by doctors and to attend school and also for the family to receive help in the form of food, etc. This is my understanding of sponsoring. However, I believe the extent to which an organization helps is very variable from one to the next.

That is great of you to want to do this. I have thought about it but the organizations keep so much of the money, I don't think it is fair. Best of luck to you in the future.

Its a great idea. Sponsoring a child preferably an orphan would help a lot in bringing a smile on this child's face. May God bless you in your endeavor.
