12 Step Program
Newly Revised to 13 Steps
© 2001 by Shirley Thomas @ CraftSayings.com
1. I will not stuff craft supplies in every corner of my house.
2. I will not keep nine projects going at one time.
3. I will not pick up more buttons, lace or fabric when I have a ton at home.
4. I will not let my crafting area look like a condemned area.
5. I will not relegate the kitchen table to crafts.
6. I will not attend craft shows just to pick up more ideas.
7. I will not stock up on more craft supplies just because they are on sale.
8. I will not go off on a tangent when anyone mentions that little word "import ".
9. I will not let my crafting distract me from fixing dinner.
10. I will not stay up all night crafting.
11. I will not save dryer lint, empty cereal boxes, detergent scoops, etc.
12. I will not buy every craft magazine I see.
13. I will not make promises I cannot keep. See you at the craft show.

Mine is wool and knitting patterns, crottcet hooks and buttons. Knitting patterns are stuffed in all the presses along with the buttons. Needles are in a corner of the sittingroom by the sofa and my walk in linen closet is packed to the ceiling with all types of wool. I intend to give them all away, but not just yet. I don't want my husband to be too happy.

We now have moved the couch away from the walls in the living room and placed boxes of things there. Hubby threatens to toss out my collection of needed items. He knows better, his threats are idle ones.

Funny how the list really is specific and it defines so many.

I am not a craftaholic. I can stop crafting anytime I want to. I just don't want to at this time.

I'll be right there with you, just as soon as I find the perfect color of yarn, and my crochet hook. Have you seen this new gadget, you can store five cases worth of fiberfill in the space of only one, if you use it. Your husband will never know the difference.

I want 4 of them. I have bags of yarn. Last year I used up 25 years of yarn that I had collected. I made afghans for 3 of my grandkids. This year I have made 2 more. Now I have a bunch of yarn from other collections and need to use them up soon.

Wow! That is too funny, but mine was paint supplies. You always have to buy more paint when it is on sale. And new brushes are a must! Even if you have 50 already, you might need a new one. And my kitchen table is my painting area. And yes, I used to stay up too late trying to finish painting something. And I saved jars and boxes and picture frames and notebooks and glasses and even oatmeal containers to paint on! I even went to garage sales buying things to paint on!

It is hard to pass up a good bargain when you know that you will have to pay full price for it when you do need it. Best to buy 2 for the price of 1.

I'll add one..
I will not alter my route while out running errands just so I can drive past Hobby Lobby or Michaels.

Love it. My husband just sat here and read your discussion and his comment is that your discussion hit right on the head for almost all of them. I just had to laugh because it is so true.

I am guilty of so many of these. My sister just got me thirty seven skeins of yarn to add to the numerous bins I already have. But they were clearing them out at WalMart, and I was so excited to check them out when she got here..Of course that is just crochet and loom knitting, then there's cross stitch, decoupage, macrame, plastic canvas, painting. SO many crafts to do,so little time to do them

I know how you feel. I got into working with polymer clay a while back and I had to force myself to go to bed. I wanted to stay up all night and play. I was spending too much on the clay so I cut back and then the sales clerk at Hobby Lobby told me about 40 percent off coupons I could print off the computer so now I have clay all over the house.

My craft is scrapbooking. And all of those apply to me. But if it is on sale, you must buy. And you can never have too much paper, buttons, eyelets, ribbon, and so on and so on. But you can run out of room. I have started using my kids room for storage.

Oh my gosh, that is too funny! I was just at Michaels yesterday using a gift card that I got for Christmas! I was having trouble finding something I really wanted to get and my kids were teasing me because they said I never have trouble finding something in Michaels! lol!
Why is it when you have money, you can't find anything good?

Gosh, this is freakin' hilarious!!!!! I have boatloads of yarn. I'm a crocheter. I blame my adoptive mother and grandmother. They started me on this one. It's their fault!!!!! Add number 14. I will blame the one who taught me to be crafty and creative! LOL

I am not that much of a craftaholic, but my kids do like their crafts. When we were cleaning our basement, I found some crafts, and craft kits for them.

i totally need to join this program. I have so much stuff crammed in places, and I just keep collecting more. I have the problem of stock pilling on items that are on Clearance even when I will probably never use them. I always have multiple projects going at the same time.

I am not guilty of number one. I rented a house with two extra rooms and my craft stuff is stored there. Except of course for the knitting by my rocking chair, the painting on the easel on the patio and the Christmas crafts on the dining room table. Oh don't worry, they are not in the way, we are eating take out till I finish them.
LOL
Loved this list, it is so true of me and of most crafters I know. Thanks for the laugh.

Oh come on....you are taking all the fun out of it. Is it not the right of every crafter to have dust bunnies and uncooked dinners because you just one more row to finish?
So what if crafting is just another word for pack rat. It sounds more politically correct
This is one 12 step program that I will avoid.. and if anyone tellls my husband I will get huffy :)
