Do you have anyone "famous" from where you live?

Locally we have a few "big name celebs" that come from our area... a few are The rock group TRAIN, Brad Boyes on the Boston Bruins NHL Team (played for the Erie Otters), Sharon Stone and a few others. It's always fun to see people from your area end up "famous".
So who's from your hometown that made it big?

John MacCrae was born in Guelph Ontario Canada. Those who are familliar with the famous WWI poem "In Flanders Fields" would know who he is. His house on Water Street near where I live was turned into a museum.
My mother was born in Odense Denmark, where Hans Christian Andersen was born. His house is also a museum. I've been there.

Thanks for your comment on my reply. There are a lot of really famous people in history. I'm so happy to have someone like him from here in Guelph. His writing said a lot, during WWI.

Wow, you went back in history to share! lol Thanks! We're lucky enough here in Erie, right on Lake Erie to have a huge amount of history from General Washington to so many others because of the battles fought here and such.
I'm amazed at how many "famous" people are from this area or even passed through and spent some amount of time.

Well, Jimmy Stewart was from the town just up the road from me, so he's from my county :) Every year, the whole town makes such a huge deal about It's A Wonderful Life! lol!
I used to live near Jamestown, NY which is where Lucille Ball is from.
I think that's about it!

Too kewl though!I know Jamestown has a huge week they put towards Lucille Ball, has a museum (recently moved and updated) and so much more. They're constantly having famous people around in the Chautaqua Institute too!

I LOVE Chautauqua Institute! I lived in Warren for 8 years and worked at the newspaper there and my territory was Jamestown. I loved it in the summer, going up and riding around the lake.... My inlaws are from Corry, which is close to you too ;)

George Foreman is my homeboy, so you don't want to make me mad. I now live in Las Vegas, so Andre Agassi is our boy here. Of course, millionaires are made and lost every day in this town, but they don't always become famous - It's just another day in the neighborhood.

Sorry for the mix-up. I'm a Texas girl. George is from Marshall, Texas. I'm now in Vegas, home of Andre Agassi.

Patty Duke goes in to my husbands Office Max, but he swears he has never seen her. lol So nope, don't ever see her.
But we did see Dennis at the Fair this year, but I only saw a quick glance at him. Our town is small, so you would think we'd see them a bit more, but nope. Or maybe if they do go by you just don't regonize them quick enough or something.

I am from the Philippines. Some of the Filipinos (and part-Filipinos) who made it big internationally are:
Lea Salonga (Tony Award winner; starred in Broadway musicals "Miss Saigon" and "Les Miserables")
APL de Ap (of the Black Eyed Peas)
Nicole (of Pussycat Dolls)
Rob Schneider ("The Animal", "Deuce Bigalow", etc.)
Lou Diamond Phillips
Monique Lhullier (fashion designer based in the US)
Tia Carrere
Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao (boxing champ)
Billy Crawford (pop star in the UK)
...not sure of his name but he played as the kid nemesis of Peter Pan in the movie "Hook" and also starred in the movie "Take The Lead" with Antonio Banderas
... that's just to name a few...

Well, I suppose the most famous person (who you'd have heard of) would be Lady Godiva, she lived in Coventry, which is the city nearest to my little town, there's also Pete Waterman, the record producer from Stock, Aitkin and Waterman (The ones who got Kylie started), then there's George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans), the author of things such as 'The Mill on the Floss' and 'Middlemarch', she actually lived between Nuneaton and Bedworth (that's the borough I live in), and someone you've probably never heard of, but he's famous here is Larry Grayson, he was from Nuneaton, one of his catchphrases was 'Shut that door!' Oh and there's Pete Docherty, the one that's dating Kate Moss, he used to be in a band called 'Babyshambles', he went to school in Bedworth. That's all I can think of at the moment, if I think of any more, I'll stick them here. :)

Unfortunately, OJ Simpson played for our football team, the Buffalo Bills, and is well-known as our star quarterback. He was not from Buffalo, but is very much associated with our city.

I don't think there are many celebrities from my area. I know of a couple... one being Jermaine Taylor. (The boxer) And President Clinton. Other than that, I grew up about 20 minutes from the town Sheryl Crow grew up. So that was always cool. =P
