My major in university was applied enghlish, so my classes included culture exchange, culture communications and stuff like that.I noticed many images and understanding (and most misunderstanding) about China were from TV and news which were outdated at all. As a result,i'd like to deliver a survey about the image of China, besides this, i'm also sure it will be a pleasure for all of the Chinese friends here and i to answer any questions about China or anything else if you got some!Have a nice day!

I only learnt and practised calligraphy when i was in primary school.I'm not familiar with it, according to what i found online the best writing and painting paper is (??)Xuan Zhi produced in jingxian, Anhui province and the best brushes are (??)Hubi in Zhejiang province! But, i think nowdays you can buy all of these stuff in a stationer in a big city like Beijing, shanghai and where i live--Nanjing. Rent a house for one month is rare but you can go to an agency to try! Some small hotel are cheap, about 50yuan a day! As for teacher, there are a lot of training center here, but i dont know what level your hubby has got and what sort of style does he want to learn! You can consult a travl agent about this and let them to arrange!Good luck!

I'm Australian, and I'm a big fan of Chinese music, particularly the erhu, which is the only instrument I've ever heard that can make you feel homesick in your own living room. Love the art, history, and literature. The problem is that I have to read English translations, and some cultural things just don't translate well into English from Chinese, unless done by a native Chinese speaker. Like, most people still call Qigong Tai Chi. Leaving out the politics, (and wouldn't we all love to, that's getting really old) China's image is usually the odd bits and pieces of media we see, plus the translations of varying quality. As you may have noticed, Western nations aren't exactly well informed about other cultures, so what gets through isn't well understood. China is a place I'd really love to visit, but I figured out that just to see all the things I want to see would take something like two years, and that's just for the Huang Shan mountains. You'd be charging me rent..

I also want to go Australia coz i've heard it is a very beautiful country! I've been to Huang Shan mountain and Tai Shan mountain which are both very famous here! This year, i plan to climb Huang Shan again because it is not far from my home!It is not expensive to visit there at all, only cost me 500yuan, but the bed i rent there was not good indeed, so wet! You remind me of uploading some photos took at the top of the mountain if i can. Hope you like them!

first of all i believe that the peoples republic of china is a totally totalitarian regime.also i believe that their judicial system is very outdated and they produce the most severe sentences for very little crimes.also on executing a prisoner, did you know that they will send the bullet that killed the prisoner to his family and ask them to pay the cost of the bullet.well thats china pretty much in a nutshell. i am sure that there are lots of nice things about china and its people but such merciless acts really gives me a very bad image of china which is not going to change in the earliest!

One topic I responded to, is about china ,being considered as one potential to become the next supper power country, What can you say about this?
• Australia

"Become" the next super power? Practically every piece of equipment I have is made in China, and their stuff at least works properly. At the very least, a sort of super-Japan, and good luck to them, after the last 200 years or so.

I'm not interested in politics at all,but i do admire and respect one political leader-- former Prime Minister Zhou Enlai whose born place was also my hometown! Last night, i happened to watch a documentary made in 1998 telling us Zhou's achievements in diplomacy aspect. I noticed he was asked many times about what's going to happen if China becomes stronger and stronger. As we can see, people started to worry about China for many years. But what i can see in life is lots of cellphones, cars, computers, software and many IT industries and products are belong to foreigne countries. Also, some people worry about the situation and call for buying homemade products to show our patriotism. Based upon my knowledge, there are many areas in China suffering from poverty. It is not a easy task to cultivate a so lager populate, unless you see the situation in person will you never understand how that feel! Anyway, do people want China to go back again?

When u write about china, u must add his relation with Pakistan. China and Pakistan are great friends, China also has good relations with other neighbours, but Pak-China Friendship is really a great example in the world. Hi China, Hello to all chinese friends on this forum.
9 Jan 07
I was unaware of this, and thank you for enlightening me. Good luck to Pakistan, clearly, a forward thinking nation. I feel the people of both countries will gain from this relationship, as both are full of culture, respect and decent people.

my impression of china is that china is still underdeveloped and over populated the workforce works for very little reward if any (semi slave) therefore china can produce goods very cheaply there is also a very large financial gap chinesse are either very rich or very poor and the very poor get no support if my impression is wrong what point is wrong

I wont say your impressions are wrong, just some of them are so absolute! It's true that China is a underdeveloped and overpopulated country, but we can feed ourslves and are still working hard to keep everyone warm and full at least!Working for very little reward? My salary is 2000yuan per month, maybe too little for you in your country, but i can support myself right now.Semi-slave? I can do whatever i want only obeying the law. I am not rich but trying to earn money to support me and my family! This month, i'm going to buy a new TVset for my family! My family is not rich, but they suppor me to finish my study, i feel so happy to be born in such a family and such a country! The gap between the rich and the poor exists in many countries, not you and me can solve this problem, and i feel the leaders who are responsible for this have noticed this problem already! The railway to the Tibet is rather a miracle, and one day it will take me there!

I understand China has industrialised very much as compared to Asian countries except Japan. Could you throw some light how China could do this progres despite large population. Also how China can produce goods very cheap. What is a secret ?

Thanks for your attention! Before answering questions, i wanna say my answers to these quesetions are just from my point of view and i'm only an ordinary Chinese girl. So, if my answers could not satisfie you, please forgive me!(ps: Today is my b'day and i am so glad to meet many friends and exchange some opinions right from this Tuesday! If you've ever been China, you will feel the power of the "large popolation", its power is much larger than that you can imagine.Besides this, goverment support, abundant resources, wise leaders, great courage are also needed! Recently, some teleplays referring to how people in early 70s (or 80s, i cannt remember) live and work hard to be rich are very popular on some channels.I like watching these programs, maybe it is not true in some aspects, but from my understanding either by myself or from my family mumbers and other people about that period, life and work are hard but full of developments. Good beginning is half done!So many words on my mind, but i have to stop! I find iam so wordy!@

China has the world's largest population but person per square ft land is more as compared to our country and hence density of population is more in Indian than in China

I am also from China! I think It was really the case when the internet was not so popular, and most of the information about China was distributed through TV and newspapers. Also there were some political factors in those news. Now more and more people in the world are used to get information from the internet, and I think they can get the instant information of China now. Just like us, we can know what's going on almost anywhere in the world, which could not be imagined several years ago. I think more and more people in the world would get to know China in the future. Welcome all the friends here to China!

As has been said, the lifestyle in China varies as to where you live and how much money you have, just as anywhere else in the world. People with money in the big cities live in ways almost like the West. People without lots of money usually hand wash their clothes, don't have a car, might not have a flush toilet, and don't have air con. Across the lines, the Chinese love their food, and always buy their ingredients fresh. If the fish ain't swimmin', they don't eat it. Tea is also important, but food more so. As for festivals, the Chinese New Year (also known as the Spring Festival) is coming up; this year is the year of the pig. 15 days after that is the Lantern Festival. The other big holiday is the Mid-autumn festival (aka Moon Festival).

I worked for the UK government in Hong Kong before the transition, and know that the British media and government like to maintain out-of-date opinions of countries that have been perceived enemies historically. China has been tarnished WRONGLY by this approach. Our media still mentions Tiannenmen Square every time they talk about China, but don't mention Martin Luther Kings assassination, and the 'million man march' against racism in the USA! In Yugoslavia, there was a lot of really bad atrocities carried out by Serbs, Croats, Bosnians etc, and the first world war started because of the racial tensions in that area. Yet, when Yugoslavia was broken down into its component parts, the West only went after the Serbians, because they were traditionally friends of Russia and the Ukrainean Cossacks. I am ashamed that our government and media still carry outmoded vendettas out against countries like China. They forget that China is as large as a quarter of the world, and that this makes for many great problems to keep everyone happy. Also, whilst China has had problems, and issues in the past; they are largely in the past. No country has come further in the last 20 years, and the Chinese people are a beautiful, warm, generous and friendly people. I've met many Chinese people, and every year in Manchester there are celebrations of the New Year, with food stalls, artists, and a stage with performers from 1 province each year. There are dragons bringing blessings, and a real party atmosphere. I shall be attending again this year. I hope to visit soon, and try to see the many cultural wonders China contains; the Terracotta Army, Forbidden Palace, Xibiang Mountain Temple, etc. Good luck, and I wish you all well, as the sleeping dragon awakens.

i am not Chinese but i like Chinese people and also i like china because China has the world's longest continuously used written language system. China is also the source of many of the world's great inventions, including the Four Great Inventions of ancient China paper, the compass, gunpowder, and printing
