There will come a time when we do run out of oil, certainly at the rate we are using it today. I would like to think that all governments will be looking to alternatives now, so that people have a choice plus that way the oil might last a lot longer. I do not think that the oil companies can be blamed for the high price of fuel. They pay the going rate to purchase it from the oil producing countries and then sell it for what they can. We have a choice, pay the price or do not use fuel, which means the consumers are the ones who determine the price.
Oil companies are big businesses with shareholders and those shareholders are entitled to a return on their investment, which is what they get when the business makes a profit. Certainly if I had shares in one of the oil companies I would not be happy not to get a return from my investment.

Ossie, I also hope that an alternative will be found, because, if there were no oil, America will be the first country to suffer from its loss, and all the people that have not started to decrease their oil-dependency (such as through solar or nuclear power or maybe even hydrogen) will be hit the most and not be able to function.

Every day oil prices going higher and higher. It is possible that we are running out of oil, i feel we should switch over to other sources of energy. It is always profitable for others when common people are suffering,so these oil companies are minting money I feel there should be some regulation on price control.

I don't think we are running out. We still have plenty and more places to drill. It is all politics and greedy companies.

Of course we are running out of oil. It is senseless to dislike the big oil companies. They are selling a product that is priced due to supply and demand (which is set by you and I). The more we consume, the higher the price.

When I think of OIL, I think of our president and how greedy and narrow-minded he is. I dislike the fact that he puts his priorities (and his pocket) above that of our people and nation. When many people know that we will have to find a better alternative to oil, because we are a nation dependent upon it, all he can think of is setting up a military base/force in every oil-producing nation in the world, so that when we run out, we can just start a war if we need any oil. This is why the price of oil cannot just be blamed on supply and demand, or the "big oil companies." Politics plays a major role, and will continue to do so, even when an alternative that works for the entire world is fully developed.

Thanks for replying. You raise some good points. I feel that with all the money we are wasting in Iraq to protect oil interests, we could have used that money to find new oil or on alternative energies. I think we should move away from dependence on OPEC oil altogether.

we are governed by people making a profit out of a scarce product, they will block anything that blocks their profits. i don't dislike the big oil companies, i hate them. people are dying so they can make themselves rich.
