It's pretty bad when.....

Okay. Here's my latest dilema...I had a job interview today and I thought I'd spruce myself up a bit and try to look presentable. I put styling products in my hair, I curled it and poofed it up a bit and then I thought I'd put on some make up. Now, I haven't worn make up since I think about 1998...I'm a plain Jane...well, I didn't have any so I had to go raid my teenage daughters bedroom for make up, nail polish, earrings and perfume. I was in a frenzy cuz I think I forgot how to use all this stuff! I managed okay though and made it to my interview on time. I got to thinking though....where over the years did I lose myself? I remember my early 20's when I wouldn't even go out to get the mail without putting on my face and doing my hair. Why do we women tend to get so lazy with our looks? I know it's kind of a stupid question but I didn't even have make up or earrings or even perfume of my own! It just made me realize that I need to spruce it up a bit more often.
Oh, and by the way....I got the job!

Congrats on the Job!!!! I think we get busy worrying about other things, and just start leting ourselves go. It is not until we get an eye opener that we even realize it.

That's exactly how I feel, like I've let myself go.

Congratulation on getting the job! I seem to have found myself in the same situation (I want to say rut, but I don't want to admit to being in a rut). I have always said that I just have bad hair, but the truth is, if I would spend some time with it in the mornings, it would have some volume and style. Also, I have all but stopped wearing makeup. I use a moisturizer, light foundation and top it off with some facial powder. I used to wear blush and eye makeup. I need to spruce it up more often too! Thanks for starting this one...made me realize that I deserve to spend the time on me.

Congratulations on the new job!!!! I hope that you enjoy the new journey that you committed to. I never have worn much for makeup. My mom never wore it, she was a Plain Jane, so I never was "taught" how! I would ALWAYS put on lipstick though. Now that I'm a stay at home mom, I barely get a brush through my hair before it gets pulled back in a pony tail. Much less any lipstick. AHHHHHG!

I know what you mean about "barely get a brush through my hair"....that's how I feel most days! Even when I was working before I never put much effort into how I looked other than I was showered and wore clean clothes. It really wasn't until today when my husband saw me after the interview and said "wow" that I realized just how much I had "let myself go".

First of all congrats on getting the job. I know what you mean about the makeup thing. In my twenties when I worked full time I always wore makeup and I was like you had to do my face before I put out the garbage. Then I had my second child when I was thirty. I was then a stay at home mom and I think I can count on my one hand how many times I have worn makeup in the last 10 years. I have really let myself go and I need to have more me time and look after myself again. But you are right women tend to lose themselves. It's sad really.

Why does not wearing make up make us frompy or lazy. I think that as a parent or a career woman gives us so many other things to worry about then what our hair or face look like. Congrats on the job though and I am sure you would have gotten it even with out the make up and hair do.

I guess I shouldn't have gone as far to say that it makes us lazy....it doesn't. I just meant that we women somtimes get into this rut of not sprucing ourselves up once we have kids and a million things to do. My point is that we put ourselves on the back burner. The make up did not get me the job.

Congrats on the job! It always feels good to get the job. I have always worn make-up. I won't leave the house without it. I have become a make-up junkie. I love it! I can't imagine not having it. I understand how easy it would be for some to just stop doing. I can't, I always feel better when I put my make-up on and fix my hair. I am always keeping up on the current make-up trends and use what works for me. Good luck and enjoy the new job.

I moved to the country a few months ago, and I catch myslef doing it. I mean going out with no makeup on. I sometimes don't even realize it until I am already in town, at the store! LOL, who would have thought. I used to even CURL my hair EVERY day! Now it is just easier to put it in a ponytail or a headband. Must be OK, thought, cuz the fella at Ace flirted with me anyhow! GREAT for getting the job, by the way, congrats!

Congratz on the job!
I am like you..a plain jane at times. I think we stop pampering and sprucing ourselves up since maybe we have no one to really impress anymore. After being married for so many years and not working, it always seems like a chore to do the hair and make-up on a daily basis. The daily basis than turns into weekly than monthly. Basically, we just get out of the routine of doing the daily sprucing.

Congratulations! Awesome!
I think we get comfortable in our own rights and just let things start to slide slowly. Before we know it, we have gotten off the path of never leave home without makeup. I'm still not one to go out most of the time, but I have been known to run to store for a quick trip without makeup :)
My hair is another story though. I used to curl it every morning before work. I've been wearing it straight for the last 5 years. So I know exactly what you mean in getting lazy. I just prefer to have a hassle free morning...lol!

Congradulations on your job. You didn't say what kind of job it is. I do not wear make-up and haven't for years. I never did much even when working in corporate america. I know some women do look better with a little on, but so many put on more and more make-up that they do not look natural anymore and I think that is when we lose ourselves. If you look like me, a little makes the face look a little better. But why do so much that you look like a china doll or the "so-called role models" of today. You are a beautiful person. Let people see the real you outside and in. You might even be a role model for your daughter. That it is not all about what you wear and how you look, but what kind of person you are that counts.

First, of all I want to congratulate for getting a job. According to me the women do make up because they always want that their age should not be determined by the people and they always want to look younger and younger.

Congratulations on the job, and I'd rather say congratulations, unless it's spelled wrong, but I don't want to say congrats, that's so uncolloquial. call me old school or whatever, but you're doing fine with using Make-up, it's just a marketing scheme to me because I've had women look good without make-up soalthough I'm not judging you, it's OK, I don't mind a woman wearing her make-up, I just think as long as it's at the job, it's OK, as for social events, please put it away, I don't care for it all.

Congrats on getting the job! Now if only I could get one! LOL As for me, I don't bother with makeup if I'm just going to get the mail. I guess I just don't see the point. I will, however, put makeup on if I'm going out. Unless it's just a run to the store. Then it just depends on whether or not I feel like it. LOL If I do, it's just a little.

First of all, congrats on getting the job. I personally have never been too interested in wearing makeup. A lot of my friends wear makeup every day and it takes them hours to get ready to go anywhere. I personally feel that if people don't see me for the beautiful person that I am without having to paint on a new face then they aren't worth being friends with.

Just to let you know that guys do it too sometimes...I have a Mustache and Beard partically because I don't have to shave every morning. And I keep my hair pretty short so it does not have to be combed or styled. 8-)

First off I would like to congratulate you on the job! That's great!
As for makeup, I think their comes a time when we don't think it's important anymore. Wearing too much make-up isn't really good for you anyway. I heard not that long ago that if your eye makeup is a couple months old, it can cause eye infections when you wear it. All it would have to do is flake off and get in your eye. It has happened to be before, and it's why I won't touch liquid eyeliner. It doesn't hurt to pretty yourself up a little either.
I hope you enjoy your new job =)
