What type of fish to get, and how big of a tank?

I've had fish before, anything from a 5 gallon to 55 gallon tank, but mostly have kept livebearers. I'm looking to set up another tank in the next 6 months or so and wondering if anybody had any suggestions on what to get this time? I don't want a tiny tank, but I want the upkeep to be fairly easy, and the fish to be bright and colorful. Any ideas?

If you have the basic idea on how to keep fish, I would suggest getting some angelfish, like 5 and keep them in a 60 gallon tank.

Thanks for the suggestion! We have talked about angelfish, just not sure we want something fragile :)

You want a marine tank or freshwater tanks? If its fresh water tank then you can visit here www.indipets.com for a great list of aquarium fish to choose from.

In addition to hte fish you end up getting, it may be good to have an algae eater in the mix. They help keep the tank much cleaner. I used to have one.

I have a 55 gallon with two blood parrot cichlids, two convict cichlids, and a large plecostamus. If you get a good quality filter like a bio-wheeel then it's pretty easy to keep the tank clean. I do a 1/3 to 1/2 water change about every 4-6 weeks and so far so good. Their water levels test perfectly. If you like bright and colorful fish then you'd probably like blood parrots. They are very bright orange, and they have great personalities.

Great idea! I had forgotten about the chichlids, and changing water once a month wouldn't be that bad. Thanks!

how about housing cichlids in a 55 gallon? Peacock cichlids are fairly easy to keep and very much colorful. you could keep at least 10 of them, preferably all males coz females tend to be drab in color. 10-15 will be a good start since they're african, they're pretty much aggressive but the quantity should spread out the aggression.

Thanks for the response! Would you have a suggestion besides a regular 55? I ended up not quite as pleased as I had thought I would with its design.

You can take the goldfish, in 1 x 50 cm, and take the water filter

I'm sorry, but this makes NO sense to me. I don't really want goldfish, as to care for them properly they need 10 gallons of water a piece, not little tanks.
