chess is considered a sport, just like billards and snooker. They are individual sports and some are even team sports especially in international championships. However, in most circles some are considered minor sports in that they do not get as much coverage as soccer, football, basketball, ice hockey, tennis, voliball etc, etc.

Of course golf is a sport. Maybe 80 year olds can play it, but they could never compete in it. Golf is something that requires a lot of patience to learn/master, and it requires a great amount of skill and practice. It has to be a sport.

Sure, it's a sport! Golf is competitive, it involves physical activity and is beneficial to your health, it takes skill or prowess... that's a sport to me :D I also think bowling is a sport. Pool, I'm not so sure -- I think I'd classify that as a game, albeit a competitive one most of the time. There's a great debate in some online communities about whether or not cheerleading is a sport. I say it definitely is -- especially at the competitive level. I'd have a heart attack trying to do what some of those men and women do! LOL

My husband's rule for something to be a sport is that it has to meet 2 requirements.
1. You have to sweat
2. And the scoring has to be objective
That means golf is NOT a sport - because you don't break a sweat.
He also claims that gymnastics, cheerleading and anything where the judging is not a hard fast number - but given by a judge with their impression, is not a sport.
SO, no, Golf is not a sport, but an activity.

I agree they are not sports! They are just strategy and geometry type games. It's not whether you spend hours and hours in a gym your entire carrer. Once you have the game you got it for good. It's not that hard to golf bowl or play pool.

I consider Golf and others like pool, bowling, sports. There are championship all over the world. And the argument that a 80 years old man can play this or that sport it´s true, but that happens in all sports, at my last futsal game I played against a team with some mans around 40 years old.

I do feel that all three of these games are sports as they all involve skill and athleticism. You have to have great knowledge of each of these sports to do well and also the physical strength and accuracy too. They may not be the most exciting sports to watch but they do involve a lot of skill and concentration and hard work.

Golf is definitely a sport and a major event, what about the Ryder Cup the most famous Golf Trophy of them all? Even bowling is famous and definitely considered a sport. I can't understand why your husband thinks that because an 80 year old can play it's not a sport, just because he's not running around a field kicking a piece of leather around for 90 minutes don't mean he's not capable of participating in a sport. Just my opinion.
