We do have to be careful, and make sure that at the end of the month we can pay it. But sometimes emergencies come up, and there is no money for it, and boom, out comes the credit card. That happened one year to us. I had to get a loan for 5 years to fix it.

I agree, credit cards don't get us in trouble, we get ourselves in trouble with credit cards and poor stewardship our finances. One of the things we do to help keep us in check financially, is whenever a card is used, a check to that credit card company is written out and sent in with the next billing. We tried to use the card(s) for emergencies only, and pay cash whenever we can. :)

Yes I think so, people often get the feeling that they actually own the money on the card (when actually the bank does) and then spend way to much. After that they have to work like crazy to pay for it and I would say that's trouble ;)

Yes, it will get us into trouble. if you are not able to manage your finances and use the credit card without being responsible for this can only give you a bad name.

Credit card can get us into trouble or not, it mostly depends on how we use it. If we use it right way it may be helpful for us rather than geting into trouble. So if we have differnt credit cards we can use them to take advantage of their policies and 0% APR. Just all you have to do is control yourself from doing extra expenses.

Oh boy they sure can get you in trouble. I got my first credit card at 29. I moved out of state and my roommate and I used my cards alot for our apartment etc. when we first moved. It wasn't long before hard times hit and payments got behind..and it just snowballed from there. Well I cleaned up my credit and again got some credit cards back in 1999. In 2000 I was very ill with flesh eating bacteria. I had insurance on all my cards but because I got behind and didn't call them while I was in a coma for 6 weeks none of the insurance companies would pay...so now my credit is down the tubes still. I will never have a credit card again. I've learned my lesson the hard way.

I had a similar problem, and am still paying for it. Had to take out a personal loan to keep my credit up, for five years. Ugh. I have one only for the most important emergency only.

yes because when we see something that we really want we will use the card if we do not have the cash. its just so tempting to use when you have them. I do think credit cards are good to have for emergencies though.

Big time, and I will tell you why! We once had a credit card for a big name store. We kept getting bills that were not anything that we bought. We battled and battled the store over this and finally the store found out that there was another man in the area with the same name as my husband, right down to the middle initial, but of course his address was different. They kept sending us the other mans bills! We took our card to the store and got a couple of workers and the manager from the store to witness us cutting up our card, handing it to them and telling them please don't send us any more bills, and walking out.

They appologized to us and tried to get us to come back, but we weren't taking anymore chances. We got rid of all of our credit cards and either pay cash or use our debit cards.

Long story, short... YES. I know from personal experience. I could write a real war & peace on the subject. Credit cards are a very bad roller coaster. You get your first Credit card with all inocents & right intentions, only need a finacial emergancy (washing machine, car or other expensive items), You think it will be ok to use the CC all intention in paying it back, then "other emergancies" come up. Other credit card companies offer their cards cheaper interest or deals, with pre aproval.... The story continues...

True. Thanks for sharing that with me. I hate them, as I find you can really get into trouble with them, even for emergencies.

Oh yes, they can. A friend of mine once used his credit card on a trip abroad. On his return, he found that he had been billed for things he did not buy. He had to get in touch with his credit card company and they did not believe him. So he had to go to his lawyer and threaten to file a suit against the credit card company. It took him 3 months of running around to get the charges reversed. It can happen.

I stay far away from credit cards! I got a couple of them when I was in college and racked them up, forgetting that I would get a bill for them eventually. When I got the bills I had no money to pay them. I have spent the past five years cleaning that mess up and have finally gotten rid of it. I have learned my lesson and refuse to get a credit card because I know I can not restrain myself from buying to much. I think it really depends on how good you are with spending and budgeting. They can be really good for building your credit if you don't go crazy with it. However, if you are like me you will just end up hurting your credit.

Yes credit cards can sometimes put us in a fix if used unjudiciously. It's so easy to go overboard while shopping or for spending on anything under the sun! Luckily my hubby is a very good planner and has certain rules when it comes to using credit cards. We use a credit card when we go on vacations and once we come back , till he pays off the debt we don't use the card again. And he has only two cards so we don't build up debt. I know so many friends who were caught up with credit card debt and it took them years before they got out of it!

I can write a book on this subject! Yes, if you are irresponsible in your spending habits and not pay the bill, even the minimum amount due each month, you can get into big trouble. People today find plastic money too easy to spend, forgetting that bill coming the end of the month. Credit is nice, if you keep it under control and pay cash whenever you can first, using the credit card in emergency and larger must have) purchases. Now, knowing what is a 'must have' is the key!

I use debit cards for convenience. All this new-fangled money out there is designed to get people into trouble if they aren't really careful... People must realize that they are taking out an open-ended interest LOAN every time they use a credit card. Ahh, for the good old days when we could just simply barter for what we wanted... Gee, it would be kinda hard to slide a cow thru one of those credit card machines...

I think it depends on how you use them and what you use them for. If you only use your credit cards for major purchases (car repair, large appliance, an emergency) then that's good. But so many people use them for consumables (eating out, gas, groceries, etc..)that it creates a problem. I once read that if you're using a credit card for consumable things, you're in trouble. And I think that's probably true. And if you have to carry a balance every month, not by choice but because you can't pay the entire bill, that probably indicates a problem. And some people think of a credit card as free money. We know that isn't the case.

I think that credit cards can be very dangerous in the hands of the wrong people or under the wrong circumstances. I have learned over the years, after many times maxing out several cards and working to consolidate the debt and pay it all off, to only charge what I can pay off in full every single month. I have been doing this for years now, and it is the only way to use credit cards, as far as I'm concerned. Once you start to carry a balance, you add to it every month, pay a small amount every month, and a large part of the payment goes to interest. Before you know it, you're in real trouble. The problem is that at this point many people will turn around and get yet another card, and start the process all over again. People have to learn that credit is not "free money". You pay for abusing credit, and it's not worth it. Since I have been out of work, I have used my credit card only a handful of times, and I have kept up with paying it off in full. I never want to get into that vicious cycle again.

I think that credit cards can get us into trouble if we allow them to. Or, in reality, if we allow the temptation to spend take us over. I find that a lot of the stories I hear about people being stuck in too much credit card debt is because they allowed themselves to get too out of control with their spending on them. We personally only have a pre-paid card...it's more like a debit card but it has the Mastercard logo...it's good for what we use it for which is a lot of online purchases. In the future I can see us getting a proper credit card so we can have the freedom of renting a vehicle if we want, but for now...we're happy with what we have. It does what we want it to and we don't have to worry about collection agents or any of that stuff. I personally do not hold a credit card with my name on it and when I do one day I know I am going to be responsible with it. I've heard the countless horror stories of people using them too much and then receiving an application for another one in the mail. Then they transfer the balance over to that one and continue to use the card like it was free money. I think that's the biggest problem with a lot of people who have credit cards nowadays...they believe it's all just free money. Oh, look, I don't have to pay for it right now but I can get what I want right now...that sort of attitude will lead a person down the wrong road into a pile of credit card debt. It doesn't help that the credit card companies do nothing to help the consumer out when they get into debt trouble with the cards. They're just happy to sit there and collect their 18 to 25% interest rate every month. I remember watching a talk show where they were talking to some people who had gotten themselves into a lot of trouble with these cards...we're talking in excess of 100,000 dollars in debt and it's still growing. That was enough to convince me that when it comes time for me to have one of those cards...I am going to shop smartly with it. I guess that's why it might be good that we have this prepaid card right now. It's kind of trained us to only spend what we can afford on the card and nothing more. I feel confident that if we had an actual card right now, that the balance would be paid off in full every month and there would be close to if not zero interest charges. If that isn't enough from the show I watched, I couldn't believe certain house holds had more than one card in it. Who needs two different credit cards? I don't care how wealthy you are...who needs two cards at the same time? That's just asking for trouble if you're already irresponsible with one card. You might as well just hand all your money straight over to the credit card companies. So, in conclusion, I don't think credit cards are bad...I think that a person just has to be responsible to have one. They should at least be responsible enough with money that they don't allow the temptation of overspending get to them. That's where it can get you into trouble. Otherwise, I don't have a problem with credit cards and I'm sure when I finally have one some day that I'll be able to handle the responsibility that comes with it.

I know credit cards can get us into trouble. We have not used a credit card for over 12 years and we are still paying for the last one we did use. We had a well drilled on a credit card that was 5,000. We had some medical bills put on the card, that was 5,000. That total of 10,000 has plagued us ever since. We always paid the monthly charge. My husband lost his job. He went to work one day and they closed the job...it never reopened. We paid the min amout due and it just kept raising. We are not getting it paid off. We only have 2,300 left on it. We did not purchase things that were not necessary. We used our credit wisley but it was not enough. We do not own a credit card and will never use one again. We vowed that 12 years ago and have stuck to that plan.

Peronally, i definetly think that credit cards can get you into trouble.. especially for young teens when they get a hold of a credit card.. today, our society are going through a lot.. for most technology, now technology is a major thing, and with new toys and expensive things, credit cards might be the only thing that they have to offer to pay for them. and then later they find out that swiping the card will add up making it hard for a person to pay it off.. i think that students will get in more trouble than others.. say if that student has only a part-time job making minimum wage, paying off money with little income can be very difficult.
