I can certianly understand why people don't want to buy. I would love to but unfortunately I am just too poor! I can barely afford when my kids do fundraisers for school or scouts! My daughter's school has a friendly neighbor policy. They can not walk door to door to sell, they can only go door to door of neighbors they and/or their parents know, their family, their parents jobs/coworkers, etc. Though she is in girlscouts and they are still pushed to go door to door and sell nuts and cookies. We just got done selling nuts and we did pretty good for the amount of houses we knocked at. And those who turned down the nuts either bought some from family, or said to come back with cookies and they will buy. Only a few houses did not open the door and those actually looked like the people were not home...not just ignoring us. She is excited to do cookies in the spring!

We didn't sell any of those nuts or magazines. My husband took the order to work but knew no one would want them. I was going to buy a tin for us and then send a tin for the troops overseas but we just didn't have the money. She did fill out that little booklet with family addresses and got her light up pen last night and was thrilled.
I think we will actually be able to sell the cookies, though. People like those and trust them but I am still not going door to door because I don't like to intrude. We'll ask our neighbors and call some family and see if they want to donate or buy (and we'll ship) and we will probably buy a few boxes and my husband says he can sell them at work (because people just love girl scout cookies) but my daughter will never be the top seller, lol.

We used to until we got scammed by some girl that claimed to be "fundraising" for a trip to France and made us buy these magazines suscriptions. Until this day we have never received any magazines ! After that we don't buy anything fom anyone that comes to our door!

Usually I will answer the door to kids selling things (unless someone shows up the day after the previous kid). I especially love when they come around selling chocolate covered almonds (my favorite). Usually we get kids at the door who are raising money for school, so I always find it hard to turn them down (even if I only buy one item off of them, I figure it's better than nothing).

If they are neighbor hood kids then yes I might help. It depends on what they are selling and for what reason. I live in an apartment building so I don't have to worry about it much. Two kids from down the hall were selling coupon books for school. I couldn't use the coupon book for $10 but since they were local kids I gave them $5.
I've also had kids trying to sell magazines. I know they were not from around here though because it was the scam kind of magizene sales. They were trying to win a trip to Europe or somehting like that, and always asked to come in the write on the table or counter. The second time they said they got permission form the landlords but I called and big surprise, no one gave thme permission. I was told I could call the police the next time I saw them.
They came two days in a row and I gave them a real hard time about it the second day. I asked for the name of the person who gave them permission. Again big surprise they forgot who it was. When they realized that Iw asn't going to buy anything and they they had asked me the dya before I saw them running away from the building. I think they knew I could call the police on them and they haven't been back since.

I try not to buy candy, because I'm diabetic, but my husband will. I do buy other items from them because it's helping support their schools.

I do not usually but things from kids door to door (and defintiely not adults!!) but do support kids I know selling things for fundraisers. The proceeds usually go to a good cause and I know that this gives kids a ;little taste of working. I support that idea too!! Keeping them organized and all the walking and talking to people to try to make a sale. My so has sold a few things for a fundraiser for various school projects. Nearly all have an incentive program for kids to earn a prize for different targets of sales. I also like the catalogs becuase although they are overpriced, the items are always of good quality.

I never do. I dont' send my kids out to sell things and I have to buy enough of their stuff. I can't afford to buy from everyone. So I usally don't answer the door.

I agree, i am not comfortable with it. I usually tell them I can't afford to right now, which is usually true. A parent who allows their child to do this has to be amazingly trusting of people. I woul never allow my child to do this. It's great that some schools insist it only be friends and family. If someone brings their kid to work asking to buys tuff, yes, I will do it.

I would only buy from kids I know on the street and even then I usually don't because I can't afford that kind of stuff and I don't want my kids eating it. I have bought from my best friend and eaten it all myself (teehee).
My daughter's school prohibits kids from blindly going door to door hawking fundraiser goods. They are supposed to sell to friends and family only.
