Do you Purchase Books?

I went into a bookstore tonight but couldn't force myself to buy anything. I just don't understand the point of buying books when you can read them from the library for free. Every now and then I find something that I know I am going to read more than once and I will buy it. Other than that I just don't buy books. How often do you actually purchase a book?

I almost never go to the library because it just isn't convenient for me. Also, I tend to lend my books to other people so they can read them too. Usually though, I buy my books second-hand from Half Price Books or someplace similar, and when I am done with them (and don't want to pass them around) I sell them back and buy some more!

our libraries are outdated, so i wouldn't get to find the books that i'd want to read. i prefer buying them --- but since i couldn't afford to buy new ones every time, i always go to booksales where i can find books at half the regular price.
it's good there are people like bungirl here who sell their books back. this allows other people to read/own the books that they want without having to pay the price for a new one.

i buy at least 6 books a month. i just don't have time to go to the library. as a mother of the kids, i wish i did. also, i like to own my books. i will admit there are some i wish i never purchased, but for the most part, i love my book collection.

Funny you say this, because I am planning on trying to get to the store today to purchase a book. I don't normally buy books though. I would rather borrow them from the library. The last couple I have bought have either been self help or a "Chicken Soup" book or have been for the book club I am in (and the library waiting list has been too long).
My Mom and I have discussed this because her and my brother love to buy books, but I would rather use my money on something else.

Man, I can't tell you how much I agree with what you said here! *laugh* Honestly, the only reason that I would purchase a book is if I either absolutely knew that I loved it so much that I wanted to read it over, or if it was a book that our local library system didn't carry. It is also a good tip to look for such books (that your library doesn't have) in used book stores. I used to buy books from those all the time! The majority of the books that I own are used books! ^_^

I buy books all the time. My local library is pretty small and doesn't carry anything that really interests me, especially specific titles. So if there is something that I'd really like to read, I have to purchase it anyway. So, regardless I just stick with buying books.

I never bought a book in my entire life except those academic books needed for school or college. I rely more on my husband's collection or my friends' books that i can borrow from. Plus, books here in the philippines i consider to be somewhat overpriced.

I don't buy too many books either. In fact the only ones I really do buy anymore are cookbooks. I do have 2 small children-one who is 7 and learning to read, so we have alot of children's books on hand, and some of which I have bought. I really don't have time to read and don't find the point in buying something tht actually may never be read (so unfortunate I know.)

I don't normally buy books instead i prefer to read it from our local library and that way i could save some bucks and anyway i am not going to do anything with the books i purchase and i dont read a book twice, and i don't like books lying everywhere in my house, so i go to library and get it from there the books i want to read and return it back, that's all. THis is my prefered way of reading books.

I love to buy books. I have a big bookcase in my home that I fill with my favorite books. But, and I have to agree with you on this, I usually borrow the book from the library first. If, after I read it, I feel that it is something I will reread and just have to own, then I buy it. I rarely purchase a book without reading it first. I love having my own collection of books and some of them I refer to often.

I love buying books! When I enter a bookstore, I am completely overwhelmed by all the brand new books there. I love new books and reading them.
Nah, the library nearest to my house lack good, latest books. Many of the books are in bad condition and are old. They don't interest me anyway. There is another library that is better than the previous one but it's too far from my house. The books there are in good condition.
However, books in Malaysia are darn expensive! I wish they would lower the price of books. But, if I need to buy, I can always go to eBay and search for second-hand books, which are just as good as new ones.

Well I live in the boondocks and we only got a library a couple of years ago!!!
The surrounding town's libraries are also very small so you'd end up waiting for months to borrow a book.
I live close to a place called Unclaimed Baggage http://www.unclaimedbaggage.com and they often have newly released hardcover books for $6 or $8 so I get to read it the same month it was released AND it's comparable to buying a paperback. :-)
They also sell new CDs for $3.50, but that's a different topic, LOL.

All I do is purchase books. 1-2 a week. I never go to the library. I'm a big re-reader and if I know I won't ever read it again, I will give it to the Salvation Army.

You go BlogYourself, great posts. Notice how I made it sound like I was bing bad with my first three words. :)
I buy books because I love to learn new things and as a computer instructor I need to constantly upgrade my skills and learn new things to teach. I can get a lot online but I like to look through the books I purchase to be sure I am getting the content that I need for what I am learning or teaching.
I don't buy books for entertainment purposes as I am a slow reader and I don't have the time to spend reading a book for enjoyment, although I get a lot of enjoyment learn new things.
I have gone to the books store, browsed the books I am interested in and then went home to find the best deal online.

Usually I get my books from the library, but sometimes there is a book I know I will read over and over so I buy it. Or instruction/pattern books for the crafts I do. I also buy a lot of childrens books for the grandkids since we encourage reading in our house by having story time every night. And I like to give them books of their own for Christmas and birthdays.

I buy books online and at book stores. My daughter loves to read and it is nothing for her to read books over and over again. I do different survey sites and get gift cards so I can get books free. I also go yard saling in the summer time and get more books very cheap. There is also a book store in Virginia that I go to and trade in all my books and get credit to buy more books from their store.
