I was looking at some photos the other night of my daughter, taken on the day she was born...It made me think back to the whole labor and delivery experience and how it can vary from woman to woman...I can't complain, from start to finish I only endured 5 hours of labor with the last 2 being the hardest. A few good pushes and welcome to the world little one..
I didnt have any kind of pain medication mostly because it did go rather fast..
I remember the 9 months leading up to the delivery I was SCARED TO DEATH...and when it was all said and done I realized my fears prior were much worse than the actual event..
Some say your second child is easier than the first. Others have told me that's not true..
So to other mothers, how was your experience?

My water broke 6 weeks before my due date. I got to the hospital at around 1:00 am. No contactions at that time. The following morning when they examined me, still no contractions yet. They told me they were going to send me home. Well, duh! My water already broke, so how could they send me home? So I reminded them of the fact that my water had already broke. Anyway, by mid-morning I did start having contractions. They got stronger as the afternoon went on and by early evening they were coming on full speed. Even though my daughter was premature and less than 5 pounds I had a hard time, since I have a narrow birth canal. But finally, I gave birth to her at 10:00 pm. Giving birth was the hardest thing I have ever physically had to do. But it was well worth the pain and effort.

giving birth to my son was the most horrendous experience of my life. He's worth it now but was really traumatic birth. Pregnancy was fine, no problems at all except slightly swollen ankles near the end. Started getting labour pains the wednesday night but carried on not getting much worse until the friday evening. went into hospital, waters were broken and things sped up quite a lot. Had to have monitor on the whole time as baby was bracicardic (sp - fast heartbeat). Was only then about 3hours til ready to push but he had got himself twisted at an awkward angle, as well as being quite big, not huge but 7lb 14 and I'm only 5ft, ventous didn't work to get him out so ended up being knocked out and having c-section. Really wish I could've been conscious for the birth. He was rushed straight to special care unit and had fits over 1st few days of life, was chance he could have suffered from brain damage, but was really lucky and have a healthy little boy.
Hope I don't scare anyone with my birth story! Stuff like that doesn't happen that often and at the end of it everyone is ok, just not an experinece I'm in a hurry to repeat!

I am sure that was really frightening at the moment..Wow from wed -friday...I know you said it wasnt the hard labor but still it must have seemed an eternity for things to get going..
The bracicardic is quite scary!! And yes, it seems a lot of times when the baby is in a weird postion it causes lots of complications..
I am soooo happy he's perfectly healthy now and I dont blame you for being apprehensive about repeating it lol..

Giving birth to my son is the most unforgettable moment of my life, I could actually remember every detail but it'll take too long to tell the whole story.*wink*
My weekly checkup was on a saturday, a little before noon my OB told me to go and have lunch then proceed to the admissions office because my cervix is already 4cm dilated. It was around 2pm when I got into the labor room where I was prepped by the nurses there, there are a lot of restrictions inside the labor room eating, drinking & walking is not allowed so after 3 hours I got so bored that I wanted to push until I deliver my baby. My OB adviced the resident OB that it's time to induce my water bag until it breaks to spped up my labor, after 30 minutes I felt pain with the contractions so they gave me the first shot of epidural. A little after 8pm the doctors and nurses rushed me to the Delivery Room because I'm ready to give birth, one, two, three pushes was all I did until I see my son's tiny body.
It was so remarkable to realize how such a tiny baby can bring huge amount of happiness.

My first one, my pregnancy was difficult, I had morning sickness, vericose veins.. and hardly slept. I was huge and uncomfortable. I labored with him for about 8-9 hours and pushed for one hour and out he came all 10 pounds 14 ounces, 21 inches (I had an epidural), My second little boy was a much more difficult pregnancy, my morning sickness was quite severe.. and I rarely slept.. I was dialated at four centimeters for 2-3 weeks before we induced him early. I was in labor with him for maybe 4 hours and I pushed for maybe 2 minutes and out he came. (9 pounds even, 22 inches long) I had an epidural with him as well. My second labor was def. alot easier.. the pregnancy was much more difficult.

wow, what big babies you had! 10 pounds 14 ounces!! Bless you!!
Morning sickness is a real drag..lots of times it only lasts a few months and is managable but I have heard some women have it the whole pregnancy and it can be unbearable at times!!

I had 2 children, both were easy pregnancies. I was able to work 2 jobs throughtout both pregnancies and still had natural delivery. Of course there was pain, but nothing like some of the horror stories I 've heard.

First of all, I have to say that being pregnant was the best feeling I have ever experienced. The labor on the other hand really wasn't as enjoyable. I had gone into the hospital with really painful contractions at about 6pm on September 3rd. (my due date was Sept. 1st)After they had done their exam and made me walk around the hospital for an hour they told me that I wasn't really in labor and sent me home. I had been given a sleeping pill and was told to get some sleep. I tried to sleep, but the pain was too intense. I tried taking a bath but for some reason I could not relax enough to sleep. I kept trying to sleep but it was useless. I went to the bathroom a little before 2am and I heard a loud pop. (it sounded like a balloon being popped) I thought that it was odd but I didn't really think much of it. All of a sudden my son decided that it was time for him to be born. I couldn't keep my body from pushing. I was sitting in he bathroom screaming for someone to help me in hopes that someone would wake up. After about 5 minutes I crawled from the bathroom towards the living room. I was still screaming for help and trying to grab the phone at the same time. (I was going to call an ambulance since it seemed like nobody was going to wake up) My parents finally heard me and came running. My mom grabbed my bags and helped me into the back of the vehicle. All I can remember of the car ride was laying there screaming please hurry. When we got to the hospital my mom ran to get a nurse and a wheelchair. The nurse ran me to the elevator and into the maternity ward. She handed me over to the nurses in maternity and they wheeled me into room 235. I got undressed and they helped me into a gown and into the bed. As soon as I was in the bed the nurse announced that she could see my son's head. My mom came into the room (after parking the car) and held my hand as his shoulders came out. I had no time for pain medication. My son was born September 4, 2006 at 2:35am. He weighed 8 lbs 1 oz and he was 20 inches long. He is my everything and even if the circumstance were different I know that I wouldn't have gotten any pain medication anyway. You kinda forget the pain as soon as your little bundle of joy is safe in your arms.

With having my son, He was a blessing to my world. however, getting him into the world was something. I went through 38 hours of some serious back labor. I manage to get to the 27th hour before i had to ask for some kind of pain relievers. The epidural was my savior..lol...But what got me with the whole pregnancy I went 38 hours of labor for about 35 minutes of pushing. I guess that's why I only have one kid to this day. My first experience was something that I will never forget. I have also heard that the 2nd is much easier but, as they always say mother or first time mother "Every pregnancy is different"...

They broke my water at 6am-ish and I gave birth at 4:20pm. I had no pain medication, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. I didn't feel wonderful or anything, but I figure it you can handle one day of really bad cramps and the stomach flu, that pretty sums up my experience with giving birth. It wasn't fun, but it was definitely worth it, and nothing that I couldn't handle. I can't wait to have my second one, and do look forward to seeing how the two experiences differ!

My second pregnancy was good, but the labor buzz was the pits.
Labored throughout the night while the mid-wife went and had a sleep.
I could of slapped her.
My husband slept, I could of slapped him too.
Next morning, I had to endure a 1 and a half hour ambulance ride to city hospital.
Pain different to my first baby.
It was so bad, in the end they had to cut him out, because it was getting to dangerous for me.
I wasn't dilating and baby was still being pushed but couldn't come.
It was the shockingist labor I ever felt. Shooting pains up and down my legs and all sorts.

I have to say compared to other horror stories I hear my labors were pretty easy. My daughter was only 6 hours. I have to laugh though because by the time I got to the hospital my contractions were soo close and I was throwing up because I could not catch my breath. They gave me the epidural and things were much better, in fact I told the epidural doctor I would leave my husband for him! By the time I delivered though, wow, I was not feeling the effects of the epidural and I was hurting! Thank God she came out only in a few pushes, if fact the nurse had said lets try a practice push before the doctor comes, so I did, and she said well, that was really good!! Please Please dont do it again till the doctor gets here and then she yelled at the other nurse to get the doctor quick.
My son was different. He was only three hours. With him I was induced so they would not give me the epidural until I was far enough along to not slow down the labor. I went the whole labor without it, by the time they gave it to me I was still feeling the contractions strongly. The doctor told the nurse "you better check her out" The nurse looked and said "OK anytime your ready go ahead and push." Because I just had that epidural, I pushed and did not feel a thing practically. The nurses loved me and thanked me for being the best labor they had to assist.
As far as the one growing in my belly right now, well I will just have to wait for February and see!!

I've noticed that most of the responses comes from mothers or pregnant women. I am neither of the two but I may say that Labor and Delivery is a good one. Though I haven't experience being in labor, I appreciate what women do to deliver a child as I've witnessed numerous deliveries whether it's normal or caesarian. I worked as an internal auditor in a hospital and I often observed such things. When I first witnessed a delivery I was shocked and scared thinking that I will have to endure the same pain and sacrifice in the future but after the delivery, when a mom sees her new baby, all the pains that she endured had vanished. The only evident emotion on her face is joy, so much joy that I couldn't fathom it. That experience made me appreciate women more especially mothers. From that day on I put in my mind that giving birth is a gift that must be cherished and that is the essence of being a woman.

it certainly is a gift!! What an amazing thing when you think about it..To have another human being growing inside of you and then bringing them into the world...
And yes even the pain..if you think of it, its one of the only time that pain means everything is going as it should..

Well for me labor was rather easy i must say , since i have never gone through labor thats why it was easy. I am a guy so thank god i will never need to go through that :-) . I can never understand how the women that are scared of spiders can go through delivery with no problem. :-) I guess its a different kind of thing but i am still happy that i will never have to go through it but i am not scared of spiders :-)

I would say that my first, my daughter, was the most difficult to deliver. My labor for her was only 7 hours, but she was big and got stuck in the birth canal face up making it extremely difficult to deliver her. I pushed nearly non-stop for two very painful hours to deliver her, but it was all worth it. I didn't have any pain meds for her, either. My most painful labor overall was for my fourth and last child. I was in labor for over 28 hours for him during which time my entire body hurt. It was a very strange experience considering my previous three pregnancies were all so different; traditional labor pains, contractions, etc. The most ironic part of the whole experience is that my fourth child was by far my smallest, weighing only 5 pounds 8 ounces, compared to my other 3 children all weighing in the 8 - 9 pound range.

i had a great pregnancy. the first couple of months were rough b/c i had morning sickness, but after that i loved it. toward the end i got a bad kidney infection. i couldn't get my fever down and i was in so much pain. my doctor told me to go to the hospital so i went at 6 in the morning. they put me on monitors and an i.v. but they couldn't keep my fever down either. around 6 in the evening my water broke. how lucky am i that i was already at the hospital? anyway they didn't think anything about it b/ c i wasn't due for another month. they didn't check to see how dialated i was or call my doctor or anything. then i started having contractions. they still did nothing. finally around 8:30 my husband started yelling at the nurse b/c she kept blowing me off saying "oh don't worry about it. your not in labor." and she would just leave! but he yelled at her so she called my doctor and they checked me and i was 5cm dialated. we already knew my son was breeched and i was going to have a c-section so it became a bit of an emergency since he wanted to come out then. my doctor rushed down and delivered him and everything turned out fine. it was scary though. c-sections are horrible though. i was in so much pain for the next week. it was definitely worth it though!

i did not have problems during my pregnancy. labor was a little painful and i had induced labor but i had anesthesia when i can't take the pain anymore. delivery was a pretty difficult because i was not a good "pusher". but all the experience was all worth it upon seeing my son.
