Do you own a rice cooker?

I purchased one a few months ago and I don't know how I would live without it! Before my rice cooker, I could not seem to make a single batch of rice without either undercooking it or burning it.
Now, I simply measure out the rice and water, turn the cooker on and leave it. It switches to warm when the rice is cooked.
I've also found that I can make prepackaged rice mixes in my rice cooker.
Is there a favorite recipe that you make using your rice cooker? If so, could you share it here?

Rice cookers are one of the greatest appliances ever. I love them. It makes rice making so easy - I have the same problem, with over or undercooking rice. And I love to have rice and curry, so one of my best investments was a rice cooker. That and a bamboo steamer. mmm, steamed buns....

no I do not have a rice cooker. I do not make rice that often and when I do it is usually a filler for like cabbage, or things like that.

No, I don't have one. I never realized they actually worked how they were supposed to. I'm always afraid to buy the newest things in case they don't work but hearing how much people like that may make me change my opinion.

I dont have one, but my mother have one. Never started my own family yet, so I am not worried about a cooker for the time being.

Hey there. Just curious... are you asian? I am asking because I am. :)
I bought my first rice cooker when I moved out at about 20 years old. Well, I had to buy a new one a few weeks ago and I love it. I've started eating rice again. Rice and veggies. My rice cooker is a veggie steamer too. :) It's pretty convenient.

Nope, I'm not asian. I was diagnosed with celiac disease a few months ago. My family eats lots and lots of pasta. Since I can no longer eat pasta, I started to eat rice instead. I love rice and eat some nearly every day.

I am so jealous. I have been meaning to get a rice cooker for a long time. I knew this Filipino family who always had rice just sitting on their counter that they could eat all the time. It was so great. I love rice and I really want to have perfectly cooked, sticky rice just sitting there for me whenever I want it.

I have a rice cooker and I think it is great! Like you, I could never get rice to come out right when I cooked it before. Now it comes out perfect every time. What a lifesaver in the kitchen! I would recommend one for anyone who likes to eat rice.

an ex bought me a rice cooker one year for christmas. I thought it was great until I went to go use it the first time and found out that it would take 50 minutes to prepare the rice.. wtf?... it only takes 20 minutes to cook it on the stove.. i'm fortunate to rarely ever mess up in the making of rice... it seems basic to me..
put 1 cup of rice in 2 cups of water with a pinch or two of salt
bring to a boil
cover and turn down to.. well it's 3 on my stove but about 1/2 way between minimum and medium... set the timer for 20 minutes
when the timer goes off fluff with a fork and recover off the heat for 5 mins..
done like dinner

I'm in the same boat! I hated cooking rice because it meant having to scrape burnt rice off the bottom of the pan for sure. I got a rice cooker a couple of years back, and now we eat brown rice at least 4 times a week!
This isn't a recipe, per se, but my rice always tastes best when I add a little bit of Earth Balance (healthy margarine) and some lemon-pepper spice (I think I use the Adobe brand--ususally by the Mexican spices at the grocer) when I put the water in. Really, any spice blend that you like would make it taste great!
I've also made mango-coconut rice by adding frozen (unthawed) mango chunks from Trader Joe's, a teaspoon of coconut extract, and a little raw sugar when I add the water. Absolutely delish with a stirfry or just some steamed broccoli!

Thanks for the recipe. I wrote it down and plan to make it as soon as I can find frozen mango (we don't have Trader Joe's in my area).

I'm sure you could use fresh, chopped mango--or even frozen pineapple! I haven't tried that, but it sounds really good.

Ya I do have a rice cooker. I cook rice either in the electric rice cooker or a pressure cooker. Both taste good. I make Biryanis and other traditional Indian dishes using the rice cooker. Not something I can share exactly since you wouldn't have eaten it before:)

I owned a rice cooker but I got rid of it. I still prefered to cook rice in a regular pot. I ended up just getting rid of the rice cooker cause it was taking up to much space on my counter.
