Have fashion and popular culture evolved in such away that their purpose now is to remove us from the safety of society into a shock experience so that we can get a titillating experience everytime it confronts us? Are we using fashion and culture to remove our moral fibre and move us toward acceptable social crudity and vulgarness? Are we supposed to accept the behavior of its stars and allow it to be reflected in our families and homes?

I don't even watching the runway show anymore. The clothing that they wear is not something that the average person would wear, so it's not a real reflection of fashion trends for us. I agree that when they start showing "real" clothes I'll pay more attention. I also disagree with the models that they use as you don't see that anywhere but on the runway and unfortunately many young girls get the notion that we are supposed to look like them and it causes a lot of eating disorders, especially amongst the models themselves. I heard recently that some European designers are finally getting the idea and are starting to use average size models. I wonder what they consider average though?

Unfortunately - it's part of celebrity culture to which I really have no interest in. It's a real shame that so many celebs get away with the things they do and seem to act like it's really no big deal. As for fashion - well I can't imagine anyone actually wearing the things that they show so often on shows. I don't believe in accepting pop culture as a part of my life - it's not what I am all about. There's so much more to life and people in my opinion - I prefer conversations with real people not showboats!!!! Just my thoughts!!!

U pointed out a good issue but listen! these actor and actoress, which often become naked in front of screen also wear proper dresses at their homes but no doubt! our present media is n't giving good things to our society. If a person sees that his ideal smokes then he/she too smokes bcuz his/her ideal smokes. Its my personal view that actor/actress, specially film actress/actor r n't able to be called "ideal" and no actor/actress is my ideal but once again i'll say that media says that they do shocked and indecent things bcuz our nation does its demand.

Fashion & Pop Culture, I believe isn't bad at all. What gives it a negative impression is that the people who are behind it lack certain moral values that's why it becomes bad in the eyes of the majority. Besides,we always have a choice to get all the good things from them and throw away all the stuff we think is bad. We're not here just to accept everything it offers to us.We always have a choice and it depends entirely on us.

That is a good question. I look at runway shows and wonder who actually wears that stuff. Celebrities are characatures. I certainly hope that impressionable youth don't think that the way celebrities act is to be used as a model for their own lives. The day that designers have a jeans and t-shirt runway show is the day I start respecting designers!

My daughter being in modeling totally scares me at times. She is smart and doesn't wear some of the outfits they want her to because they are so riscae. I am proud to know she isn't falling for all their vulger outfits. I am glad the industry is being forced to no longer use the models that are so thin. I think this will change alot of the designers thoughts. I think society is starting to take back the designs they want to wear and letting the industry know we will no longer buy these items they are portraying as fashion. We have to stand strong and force the industry to make the clothes we are going to wear and not be led to wear what is so vulgar and crude.

You do not have to accept anything that makes you uncomfortable. Styles and fashion changes and eventually you will be back in style if that is a concern for you. As long as you are clean, neat, presentable you should do fine with whatever wardrobe pick! Have fun and express yourself. With modesty...yeah I can appreciate modesty!!

Fashion is not king but it can be the lead of evil if we allow our children to embrace it. It will cause many new evils to emerge just like the hurt it does the models who wear those fashions for designers. I think Marilyn Monroe had the perfect body type but not these waifs of today.

This is a great discussion. I would say that the younger people are the ones who tend to try to incorporate the personalities and styles of celebrities into their lives, but we see all too often people in the middle-aged range who have not yet outgrown this.
I have never been one to emulate anybody, no matter how famous they are. I like clothing and material things that are stylish, fashionable, up-to-date, but also practical. The fashions that are seen displayed by the high-fashion models is ridiculous; who would actually wear that stuff? And who would allow their teenagers to wear it? I go more for comfort, myself. I don't want to go out looking like a hooker to work just so that I can say I am following the latest trends.
What's really sad is that young people are seeing these people and trying to "be them". They copy the fashions, tattoos, piercings, and even dental jewelery of the celebrities. Hopefully they don't copy some of the behaviors that are also displayed (example Paris Hitlon, Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, to name to top 3).

Fashion is only for fools to follow, the shock factor and going to esteems was always the designers way to get attention but people should have brains and don't follow blindly all what is thrown it at them. It's bad that teenagers and youth are the most influenced by the media and the new tends :(

I agree that fashion has really taken things to the extreme in this past while. No, I don't think that we should be looking to celebrities to decide how to dress ourselves. It seems like girls in music videos these days are wearing less and less clothes, no matter how young they are, and this is encouraging young teens to think that they must too dress this way. I find this pretty inappropriate, and I wish that we had some better role models in our society.

It will only get into our homes if we allow it. When my son started dating, I eexplained his friends could come over but they had to dress appropriately. That I was not running a brothel and did not want the neighbors to think I was based on his friends.
His girl friends always came over appropriately dressed and when I met them in other places they were dressed nicely. Maybe he just went out with girls that were nicely dressd, I don't know.
But you can make choices and decisions.

very good point you bring up. I am forever embarrased at the fashion of today. I do find it challenging, but do find alternative dress styles for my daughters. It doesnt bother me to terribly much as far as my family attire goes, but it does embarrass me when we are out to see a young girl dressed very skimpy I really wonder why the momma will allow that.

To the fashion world "grunge" is the look of the moment. Since when Christian Francis Roth and Marc Jacobs, two American designers barely known in Europe, showed their new collections in New York,no catwalk has been complete without itsversion of the dressed down Seventies' hippie style.
