When I was younger I did skip meals to compensate or balance my food intake. Now that I am older and everything is so different with my body, I eat 3 meals a day. It is healthier and my body does not rebel so much. Over the years your body begins to act crazy when you abuse it while you are young. Right now at your age your body is just going along for the ride, but in about 10 years it will put the brakes on and let you know it doesn't like the skipping of meals or basically most anything you are doing to it right now. So your body will take control and start telling you what it wants you to for it or will just get ill and stay that way LOL

I used to not eat at all until after I got off of work because I would just get busy and not take time to eat. I stopped that after about 3 years or so, because after awhile I realized that was bad for me and that I needed to be eating on a normal schedule. I still skip meals every now and then, usually after I have a large meal because I am so full.

It is sometimes advisable to go on a fast every once on a while, nothing drastic but just so your body can balance it's functions and cleanse itself more efficiently...
Adding green tea and pure water during the fast really will make you feel good and you will enjoy your food even more once the fast is over...
I'll sometimes not eat solid food for 24 hours maybe once every two weeks...
Since I do most of my own cooking, I can choose more healthier foods, and since I'm a darn good cook, I can make almost anything taste very good.
My body does a great job of getting rid of unhealthy foods!

I used to skip breakfast almost every day for about 20 years until I was diagnosed with diabetes and my doctor said I must eat 3 meals every single day. Sometimes at the weekend I will have a fairly late breakfast and then skip lunch and have dinner in late afternoon but I don't skip meals for dieting purposes as it doesn't work :)

I can't do that because I have late onset diabetes so I have to eat regular meals and monitor my blood. However up until a few years ago I would never eat breakfast and often not eat anything until lunch time. I would then eat dinenr and rarely a snack after dinner. And yet I was far more overweight than I am now.

Oh yes, I definitely do that! Usually it's lunch. I don't skip dinner very often because I have to cook for the rest of the family, so I'll just try to cook something really healthy or only eat a little. But I have definitely skipped lunch because I was bad the day before.

When to Start Dieting?
This one is for women:
Never start a diet one week before your period. The hormonal imbalances will drive you nuts, will make you frustrated, and the water retained in your body will make appear as if you haven't shed a pound. Actually, you will look as if you took pounds. So spare yourself!
The best moment to start a diet is two days after your period has started, when your cravings subdue and your body starts eliminating the retained water.
It's better not only from a psychological point of view, but also from a physiological one.
So, girls, did you know that the body retains up to 1 liter of water before and during your period? Keep that in mind next time you are complaining that you cannot lose weight. Personally, I retain even more sometimes.
Anyway, I started this new way of eating. My friend lost 20 pounds almost following it in the US, and if she could do it there, I can do it here!
The basic principles are the ones I have mentioned already. 5-6 meals a day and two or three more substantial. Never eat until you are full, just until you are not hungry anymore. Take out sugar so your insulin is not high and stopping you from losing weight. My daily intake varies from 1,200 calories to 1,500 calories. I don't think that going under this is helpful or healthy.
In the morning I'm having a Diet Cereal Bar and half a glass of yogurt. Two-three hours later I have lunch (for example today I had three small pieces of chicken nuggets and 3 large spoons of eggplants and yogurt salad). Then I had one Diet (with fructose instead of sugar) fruit cheesy yogurt. Then I had dinner - other 3 pieces of nuggets, one egg, and lots of lettuce - and then one more fruity cheesy yogurt. I could have added more, but I feel ok. I am not hungry. I could use some fruits though.

Not me! I have no reason to skip meals because I'm very small. I only weigh 90 lbs before I had the baby. When I was pregnant, I gained 35 lbs but lost most of it after birth. Now, I'm only 97 lbs. I eat a lot but didn't gain weight. Geeshhh...why it's too hard to put on some weight?

I don't think it's a good idea to try to lose weight by skipping meals. It's better to eat a little less at each meal. You get used to eating less and will be able to keep weight off then.

No I do not skip meals in order to balance out my diet as that is just plain unhealthy. If a person is concerned, then they should just reduce the amount they eat and also cut out fatty foods and things that are high in sugar. If you skip a meal the blood sugar levels will drop and then the person ends up eating more junk just to raise the levels, although they might not realise what they are doing.
Instead of skipping meals, the person is better off eating some fruit or even having something like some celery which has no calories at all but will still give enough of a boost. So if for some reason, like going to a party for example, I have eaten too much one night then the following day I will eat fruit and for a snack I will have some celery.

Yes I do, but I realy don't think a person should do so. I do it becuase I am not hungry, but even then you should have 3 meals a day, otherwise your body becomes used to having only that many calories in you at a time and your metab slows down. It is crazy, but true.

I am sometime skip breakfast, or lunch because i have to work and i didnt get a chance to eat till later, and by that time it either close to lunch or supper, so there is no point of eat twice so close to each other, other wise i do try to eat three times a day, sometime i miss lunch or something i will eat a sneak it will hold me till the next meal.
