I forgot to comment on the photo you've taken.. It's actually a very nice shot, my camera can't even go that far... in terms of macro photography.. ugh.. I hate it! ahahaha..

Hello..... Nice flower, I've never seen one like it. You don't mention the mega-pixel rating of your camera, this may be the best quality that camera can achieve, but I could be wrong, but there are still ways to improve the quality of image. I've been using a Nikon 4300 Cool-pix and I love it's macro capability. It does not have threads to attach other lenses, but I have created several homemade macro-lenses in my quest to improve my pictures. I found a place on-line that carries a clamping device to align and hold my lenses in place. The Nikon 4300 has a macro setting that is fairly decent, but I wanted to push it beyond it's limits. I'm still new here so I can't post any images here in responses, but if you check my, mylot album, you'll see some examples. Let me know if you'd like to discuss this further. Tom

I'm really interested in the 'home made' lenses you mention. My fuji camera cannot take extras or add-on's, but won't focus on anything closer than 5-6cm. I'd love to try some proper macro photography with it (or as close as i can get). I've sent a friend request, so please PM me? Thanks.

You might be getting closer to the subject than your camera allows. Back up a bit and if the photo is a lot clearer, that's what the problem is. If you buy macro attachments (if possible) you can get closer.

Can adapters be put on it to add macro attachments? A lot of the older point and shoots still had some threads to screw in attachments. I noticed a lot of new ones don't though. I have a Nikon CoolPix S5, and you can't attach anything extra to that. But my old Nikon CoolPix 800 would take attachments, though very few.

Id say its a pretty good shot for a canon powershot camera. Without a proper macrolense or at least extension tubes to a normal lense you will struggly to photograph objects at a 1:1 ratio (real life size). With regards to your photo, lighting is essential for good macro photography. You have too little light on the ants and too much blown out light in the background.

I have the same problem actually with my Canon Ixus, it does have a macro mode but it doesn't really do as much as I wanted it to.. it gets blurry when I take really close up shots (which I really want) there really is nothing we can do about that I think, just that the camera wasn't really made to take good macros. Very disappointing actually, that is why I'm planning to get a digital SLR which I've been wanting for the longest time, since I know I can do a lot more with it.

I think the ant pic is actually very good!! I do agree with the other poster, that perhaps a little more light, but all in all, I think it is very good.
