Please Wash Your Feet!

I just applied for a job in a shoe store. With my former work I evaluated, measured and fitted people for orthopedic and diabetic footwear. There were many times that people showed up for their appointments with the smelliest feet I have ever encountered. So, please for the sake of the shoe salesman, wash your feet before you come to the store and wear clean socks.
I know that there are people that have health conditions that can make their feet sweat, but there is a difference between sweating feet and dirty feet.

That is funny - I always brush my teeth before I go to the dentist, so you would think people would wash their feet and put on some clean socks before they get fitted for shoes.

Ew! *laugh* I will definitely keep this in mind before I go to the shoe store next time. I do need a new pair of shoes, and I had never thought about how I might effect the people working there. Although I usually look for and try on shoes on my own, anyway, without the help of a salesperson. ^_^ I am sorry that you encountered some people with really stinky feet in your previous job. I hope that it doesn't happen this time around if you end up taking this new job in a shoe store! ^_^

Diet can play a part in body odor. So no surprises there since our diets are deteriorating every day. However, their feet may be clean to put into the shoes, just their shoes need more care. At the minimum they should put a bar of soap in each shoe to help things improve. People used to polish their shoes and then to them however I believe that they have become an afterthought. A sign posted in the store might improve everyones visit!!!

Isn't it pathetic that people don't have the sense to do something as simple as washing their feet and putting on clean socks? This should be normal hygiene whether you are having shoes fitted or going to the movies... It's just part of getting ready for the day. I also can't understand how some people can wear smelly old sneakers or shoes that soak up the sweat- maybe their feet and socks are clean, but it's all over once they put on the sneakers! I guess they haven't heard of Odor Eaters! Good Luck with the job!

Thanks Laurie. I am not sure I would be thrilled with getting this job, but what the heck, it would beat a blank.

I have to admit I chuckled when I read this discussion and imagined the scene of a customer removing his shoe to reveal a old worn sock and a fragrant offering. On topic though, to most peolple (I Hope) washing the part of the body that some other person might have to handle?inspect seem like simple manners to me.
I don't envy you.

If there's anything I abhor it's body odor and when I say body odor, it includes the whole body. I can't understand why for some people hygiene is a strange word. I have a bad back and I cannot bend to reach my toes when I shower so I put a small stool in my bathroom where I can comfortably raise my legs to soap. Not that I have smelly feet; it's just standard procedure for me to clean/soap my whole body when I take a bath. There's just no excuse (except of course if you live way out in the sticks where there's no water)!

people really need to be aware about other people, too. it does not mean that because they are customers, it's okey for them to be that dirty.

My husband is a long time diabetic. I know he has a lot of problems with his feet & them sweating & such. Nothing he does can get rid of the horrid odor for long so I can only imagine what you go threw.

EEWW! I don't think I could handle that job. Body oders don't agree with my stomach. Bless your heart.
Couldn't they have offered the costumers some wipies to clean their feet with first. Could say it's a health code or something. Maybe that would have helped.

I brought a jar of Vicks vaporub to work with me. Rub a little under your nose and the odors don't bother you.

when i go to the mall and i am sure about trying on shoes, i always try to make my feet soft by putting lotions and creams on it. i make sure it is clean and i even check if my pedicure is still okey. if not, i do it (pedicure) on my own before going to the mall. it's so embarrassing to make someone help you try on a new pair of shoes or sandals with dirty feet. atleast, it's one way of telling them that i respect their job.
i had seen other people trying on shoes with dirty feet. yuck! what if i get to try it on after them? people should think of others, too. atleast clean their feet before trying shoes on is like respecting the next person who will try it on.

Oh that is SO nasty!
I never get my feet measured but I do my kids. And I always make sure they have on nice clean socks and make sure they don't smell.

Oh gross you poor thing. I would have never thought of what a shoe salesman would go through. You would think people wouldn't be so ignorant but you've just proven me wrong.

yuck! what were they thinking. they should have wash or put some anti-perspirant on their feet before they try on their shoes. i have a friend who has the smelliest feet i have ever smelled but he always makes it a point to take care of his feet and at least avoid someone smelling his feet. i do think those people lacked personal hygiene. if they knew there were something not nice on their feet they should have done something with it before showing it to others. good luck on your job anyways.
