If you contact the manufacturers of most makes of paint etc they often do give out vouchers or free samples. When I worked in an art show we used to get stacks of freebies from the companies, it was just a case of being brave and asking nicely.

Thanks thats a great idea, but I was wondering if anyone knew specifically like who do I ask?

Pick your favourite manufacturer, there is usually an address on the label of the product, just write to their customer services, often with a suggestion for a product, and ask if they ever produce sample sizes as you would love to explore their range in more detail. Say nice things about them! Its worked well for me :)
