Chopsticks or Fork/Spoon?

Do you use chopsticks? If you do, do you prefer to use chopsticks or fork and spoon? Why?I've a discussion with a friend on this, I prefer to use chopsticks as I think it's easier to pick up food, except for those rounded and soft items, such as tofu` fish balls. Especially when I'm eating noodles, I think using chopsticks is easier. Well, and also I can just use one hand to eat, instead of using both hands for spoon and fork. Using chopsticks, I can pick up exactly what I want to pick up. Although I use fork/spoon as well, I use chopsticks more often. My friend thinks using fork and spoon is easier. How about you? Which is your preference?

I don’t use chopsticks because I am not an expert in using one. I often use spoon and fork to eat my meals. However, if the meal is composed of rice, grilled pork or sea foods we dipped in soy sauce or fish paste with calamansi I would likely use my hands. I eat more when I use them.

Hi, kaka135. I think using a spoon and a fork is so much easier for me to handle. If I use a chopstick, then the food will probably slip from the chopsticks. I can't have that, especially when I am so hungry!

for ppl like me who's more used to forks and spoons, of course we prefer those. i'm not so good with choptsticks,i realy admire those who are good at it like how do they do it effortlessly?i could eat dumplings with it and noodles but i really don't know the technique.i find myself pressing hard on the chopsticks so to make sure my food won't fall!!!can you tell me what the technique is in using chopsticks???

Both at the same time?! Doesn't that just make things harder? I mean, do you use the fork to cut things or something? Because I could sort of see that working, but otherwise, I'd have my doubts...

Ma Kaka I tend to agree that chopstick manipulation does allow for greater specific choice. Of all the utensils definately prefer the spoon. Its shape, its functional ability. Its more pleasure to eat with chopsticks..You are lucky to have grown up with a Chinese family. I met some very beautiful Chinese people in Beijing and Shanghai. Xie Xie.

it is depend upon the person who will use the said items. if you used to use chopstick then it is surely easy for you to choose it. but if you are the person that since birth you use the fork and spoon you will definitely asked for the two utensil..

i like fork-spoon combination more because it can be used with more kinds of food unlike chopsticks which you can't use with soup or to cut steaks. forks and spoons are also easier to use. you don't really have to practice using it for days.

I use a fork and spoon when I have the option, unless I'm trying to impress my friends with my "chopsticking" skills that I picked up in Japan :). If I want to hurry up and finish eating then the fork and spoon are definitely the way to go though - the chopsticks slow me down.

It depends on what I am eating and where I am eating. Usually when I am in a Chinese restaurant, I often use, chopstick. When I am at home or on other restaurants, I use spoon and fork.

i wanted to try chopsticks but i know it gonna be hard since i am from Philippines and we only used fork and spoon here. Also i think it gonna be hard to eat using chopstick, maybe to those people who already born in the nature that they eat using chopstick, it is not hard for them.

I use chopsticks x) I also grew up using these so I'm more used to chopsticks than any other utensil, and I can't use knife and fork very well :$ I like to use a spoon as well for certain things, like when I put stuff ontop/with the rice or something like that, but not for everything. I think to me, although i'm not the BEST at using them, I think chopsticks are easier and even if I can't pick something up (depending what it is), I could just jab it in like I would with a fork xD So yeah, that's my preference.

If you have used chopsticks from a young age, you will have no problem with it. If not, using fork and spoon would be easier and faster. Not easy picking up a beancurd or fish balls even for veterans of chopsticks, not to mention newbies.
