Just a bit of a light hearted discussion.
Why in the world do we, women burden our selves with purses? Not only do we end up putting so much in them, they can actually cause damage our spine, we spend more money than we should to find that "right one". I'll admit it, I am a slave to this tradition and I haven’t a clue as to why. I hate carrying a purse. They slide down my shoulder, get in the way and it’s one more thing for me to accidentally leave behind. Saddly, I own several!?
So, here are my questions…
1) Why is it the men are not the ones to carry the “Bag of everything” around? They are the stronger of the species, shouldn’t they have the burden of this? After all the mailman are living proof men can look macho with a purse!
2) Why do you think we women need our purses? Creatures of tradition? We love aggravating things? It’s a useful weapon? What is your reason?
3) Women, be honest, what are you carrying in your purse, right now? A years worth of receipts? A thousand needless keys? Fossilized lipstick? old snotty tissues? Go ahead be honest.
4) Men, what do you THINK we are carrying in our purses? Sexy lingerie to be on the ready for you no matter where we are at? The secret woman’s hand book? Torture devices? Come on, share your ideas.
5) Have you ever looked through some one else’s purse? Be honest, your amongst friends here and we will never tell. TRUST ME! :-)
No right or wrong answers, just a funny little discussion.

well...women are considered to be the more sofisticated ones..and also..less careless than men are..here are my ansers
1)first of all..men don't have to carry so many things with them..and secondly..women find these purses as an add on to their persoanlity..and also they keep their important things..as make up kit,and mirror and every usful thing they want..or sometimes..the purse or bag is only for show purpose
2)bcoz women just want to be the centre of attraction everywhere..soo their purse might catch an attention.
3)i am not a woman
4)i think..women carry all their makeup items and their utlity items..whether they'll come to be useful or not..they have this feeling that..they might need those things..i ask u..wat all things u keep
??ha ha ha

I stopped carrying a purse when I graduated high school. I didn't carry a purse for over 10 years. Just recently I started carrying one again for keys, cell phone, lip gloss, receipts and business cards. All of my purses are small but sometimes I get stuck carrying my sons' gamebgoys.
My hubby has a Murse. I bought it for him. It is really nice, Kenneth Cole.
I have never looked in anyone else's purse.

good topic....i'm myself not always carry purse.i only do when i go to work or places for long hours.i think women carry purse because woman always want to look pretty and tidy specially who have a long hair, so they have to has a place to put all their make up accesories. also women ussually have a thicker and bigger wallet because we always puts many things in our wallet like pictures, credit card bills etc.while men only need a small comb and they can put it in their pocket, even often they didnt really need it coz they have a short cut hair.and man dont need make up, man never like to use thick or big wallet.well basicly women are more complicated then a man hahaha

Umm... well I dont think I can answer that point by point.. but my observation is that a lot of women dont go out everyday or several times a day.. to chores like dropping cheques, buying a lipstick, or pick a packet of chips. They keep making a list of their chores and go and do all of them at the same time. While men would divide their chores, and they dont mind going out several times.. they dont do everything at the same time because it takes a lot of time which men dont like.

My boyfriend stuffs everything he needs in his pockets and if it doesn't fit asks me to put it in my bag. I don't know why the girls have to carry everything.. None of my male friends have bags except for school, even the gay ones. I need my purse because it has everything i need in it. My money, phone, hair brush, make-up.. i wouldn't want to leave the house without any of those things. Perhaps it's the pressure to look good? I can safely say i've never looked through anyone elses purse, i suspect they just have the same things as me. Nothing particularly interesting.

Men doesn't carry purses because they don't have to carry their makeup kits with them and also they have pockets to put their wallets or cash into it.
Women need purses because they like to have extra things with them always, like Makeup kits etc and they don't have pockets in their dresses most of time to put things into it.
I think third one is for ladies only, they can answer it better.
Ladies must be having cellphones, cash, credit cards, slips and slips and slips and makeup kits. Thats all I can think of right now
No, I havent looked into a women's purse till now but after this discussion I think I should look, lol.

I rarely carry a purse because i hate lugging anything around. I would rather have everything in my pockest.
1) Men don't carry purses because they don't want to carry around everyone elses stuff.
2) I think that women carry around purses because for so many centuries we weren't allowed ot wear pants and other things with pockets. Since we watch the children we carry around all of their stuff. I am sure for some people it is just easier to carry a purse with random items than have their hands full with stuff for their kids.
3) Hmmm. I have no idea. I would have to dig my purse out of my closet.
5) Nope.

Great topic for discussion! I have slowly been weaning myself from the big purse full of junk habit!lol One way that I learned to cut down was to buy a smaller purse just for my money, ID, keys, cell phone and a few make up items. That helps.
On the other hand, I have one bag that I love, sort of a purse and tote combined, that I carry my college stuff and purse items in. This combines both and is pretty functional too.
My mother has the kitchen sink in her purse and I don't know how she manages it-there is no organization to it ans she's always fishing through it trying to find things!

Hello, Interesting discussion as always :)
A few times I envied women for caring purses, there are a few things that I leave behind sometimes because it won't fit my pockets, some men carry "bags" with them but I find it unnecessary. In many occasions it happened as i go out walking around with a girlfriend or any woman friend and I have or I buy a small item of any sort I would ask her to keep it in her purse because I like to keep my hands free and might forget it somewhere, they accept gladly but now you made me feel guilty about it, although small things it might add up to the weight they have to carry around all of the time .
1- as a man I don't see a reason to carry a bag, there wouldn't be much to put in it most of the time. and I'm not sure if mailmen look sexy.. I think they only get lucky with women just in the jokes lol
2- It was never used against me as a weapon :) I guess many women need it just because they like to carry a lot of makeup around but I like the women who don't wear make-up, wear jeans and walk freely without purses.
3- not applicable :)
4- It's not a mystery, i looked into many purses before and didn't find strange or dangerous objects :)
5- yes but with their consent.

LOL, very cute discussion, sunshinecup :)
1) Men frequently DO carry the bag of everything ... because part of our reason for having one is to be able to say, "Honey, can you hold my purse?"
2) I don't actually "need" a purse. Most times, when we go out, I just carry my wallet (for ID) and my cell phone. But if I did "need" a purse, it would probably be so I can fool people into thinking I have money in it! ;)
3) Ummm... well my current purse has been on the top shelf of my closet for about the last month so... lol But it's pretty small so it only has my non-essential cards, a small change purse and the obligatory pad and tampon. Come to think of it, based on those last two items, I guess that was the last time I carried the purse!
4) ROFL! I'll just READ the answers to this one... moving on....
5) Yep! I had to go through my mom's purse for her a few times and I swear I felt like I should have been wearing a black catsuit and a ski mask. LOL

1. I think because carrying a purse looks very feminine and fashionable.
2. Carrying a purse is very useful, women are very organized human being...I guess.
3. In my purse I got, facial tissue, mobile phone, face powder and lip gloss, wallet (and inside my wallet there are more stuffs), a mirror and what else? Handkerchief. Sometimes pen and paper.
4. I'm a girl I don't know what they think. Some girly stuff I guess.
5. Yes!

LOL! I love your discussion. I do wonder also what men think that we are carrying. And I agree, why isn't it men who are lugging our stuff around, if they are the stronger gender, lol? ^_~
Honestly, though, I think that purses probably evolved from women's liking to carry such things around as makeup, etc, that guys normally wouldn't carry. I wouldn't know since I haven't really been into makeup and other such things. Men usually just carry their money and driver's liscence, maybe a comb or something of that nature.

1)I think the reason that guys don't carry around the "bag of everything" is because they don't care so much about being ready for stuff. When they forget something, they wing it. At least, that's what my bf does.
2) My reason for carrying a purse is that most of the time clothes don't have sufficient pockets for my needs. Ever tried stuffing a glasses case or checkbook into the pocket of a pair of jeans? It doesn't work too well. Of course, I've been carrying a purse around since about 5th grade (don't remember why I started carrying it, though I do remember that it was a nice spot to put my pen/pencil in jr. high and high school). So now I feel weird if I leave the house without my purse.
3) In my purse right now...*empties it* bus map, bus passes, bus pass for another city, 2 expired CPR cards, First Aid certification card, Panera coffee card, bus pass from another city, SkyMiles card (huh?), 2 business cards, 1wk old recipt, RadioShack Rewards card, 3 pens, 2 old notes, 2 cupons, small wallet-thing including 3 library cards (different libraries) and a DD gift card, tic tacs, whistle, glasses cleaning fluid, coinpurse, empty bandaid dispenser, dice bag (d4, 2d6, d8, d10, d20, lipstick in holder, glasses case, small notebook, expired non-driver ID, gift card, bank/credit cards, insurance card, checkbooks, keys, car permit tag, recipt from yesterday, old cupon, recipt from today, old recipt, empty Starbucks card, Red Cross blood donor card, Melaleuca membership card, passport, cell phone. Attached are my keys and another cell phone.
4) N/A, I'm female.
5) I've gone through my mom's purse before. Usually at her request, to find something.
I actually do really use most of the stuff in my purse. Either that or it used to be in use and I haven't got a better spot for it (bus stuff from other city). The lipstick probably got tossed in when I was preparing for some event, and then forgot to get taken back out afterwards.
Does that make any sense?

Oops. The first bit about the "bus pass from another city" is supposed to say "bus map".
Completely different note from the typo thingy....
One reason I carry a purse is that I don't have a car. I'm working on getting my driver's licence, though! (I'm 23)

Hi friend, its just a joke i think, all have a his her own purse carried along. How's that? Except very lower class people and kids all have?
The one thing which must be noticed is the habits of personality? Could determine the weight of purse?
- Looking beutiful,
- Rich person,
- Professional requirements,
- Other reasons could be thinking about style and passion.

Right now I am carrying my wallet, my bag of makeup, and keys in my brand new purse I just bought.. hehe, rocawear. The old purse I had was horrible, last week I had a cold and I would carry snot tissue around in this huge heavy bag, tons of receipts, and scattered money in the bottom of the purse. Yeah, I upgraded.

Perhaps it's just due to me being a guy and not paying the necessary attention, but it seems to me that purses just aren't as popular as they used to in times past.
My sisters don't usually carry purses from what I can see, but my Mom used to back in the day. And my girlfriend never carries a purse unless it goes with a certain outfit when we go out. She usually just carries her cards and money in her pockets.
We guys like to keep things simple, that's why you don't see 'most of us' carrying a purse equivalent. We have our wallet, or keys, and for me, a stick of chapstick, and we're good to go.
And finally, trust me, unless your asked your boyfriend or husband to hold your purse and it felt like an anvil was inside, 'wondering what's in a girls purse' is probably one of the last things to ever cross a guys mind.

Great discussion topic! I refused to carry a purse for years; it wasn't until around 22 or 23 that I finally gave in. I got a very small shoulder purse. Before then, I used to carry a planner with everything I could need in it. I resisted for so long, because I have always been a tom boy of sorts, and carrying a purse is definitely a girly thing.
1. The man would just say that he didn't need anything and leave the bag of everything at home. Haven't you ever had a guy say "I'll just put it in your purse"? I don't carry one when I go out at night. I just put cards in my pocket.
2. I think the need for purses is a feminine thing and also a marketing thing. Designers make something expensive and get the right people to sell it for them in order to make society want it. Carrying a purse is portrayed as a feminine idea. In order to be more feminine, one must carry a purse. Society is often led by what big companies want us to see or do. Women don't really need purses, they just think they do. They have gotten used to having them and being able to carry everything with them. If they were forced to, they would see that they could live without all the crap that goes in them.
3. My purse carries my wallet and checkbook, a pen, some giftcards I got for Christmas, my chapstick, my container of medication (tylenol, sinus stuff, etc), a bottle of contact eye drops, my keys (work and home), gum, hairties, and a few pads.
5. I have been in some of my friend's purses to fetch something. This is a good way to tell how close friends are. Mostly, if someone asks you to get something from their purse, you will bring the purse to the person for them to fetch the desired item. Close friends, however, you may just rummage through for them. I have been in a few people's purses. Yes we do keep way too much junk in them.

Personally, I don't carry a purse. For quite a while, if I needed to carry much with me, I would just bring my trusty backpack along, or put things in my pockets. Now I'm slowly shifting to a messenger bag. These larger packs and bags are a lot more handy for me since I have to carry texts and notebooks around for school and transport things home on the bus rather often. Anything that I might otherwise store in a purse finds a home in one or more pockets on the backpack or bag.
I honestly don't know why men don't carry bags of things around. I can understand in the case of purses being used as make-up carrying cases: I don't wear make-up, and this is the case for most guys as well. I think women have become dependent on certain things that they carry and would feel a bit naked without them. In addition, clothing such as skirts and dresses, if worn, are generally pocket-free, providing nowhere for make-up, cellphones, keys, etc. to be placed.
Since I am purse-less, I will list things from my backpack: a small bottle of lotion, even smaller bottle of ibuprofen, blunt tipped scissors, chapstick, two keys, a variety of receipts and notes, a thin highlighter, bus schedule, pencil sharpener, gum, mints, a small comb, two disposable flossers, the first letter my girlfriend ever sent me and a cellphone (which moves in and out of the pack/bag a lot). I try to clean it out periodically so that I'm not carrying around useless, excess weight.
I have looked through other purses before, but generally only when the other person was busy and needed me to look for something for her (such as a ringing cellphone, heh). There was one time that I was looking for a hidden Capri Sun, however, but that was long ago...
