I had my tubes tied after my third child and I didn't experience any extra pain, but I had all three by caesarean. I can't really say how painful it is if you have your child naturally then have the tubal ligation later, but I've heard from others that it's a simple thing and doesn't cause much pain either way.

Congrats on the baby boy! I'm pregnant with out third. I'm also thinking about getting mine tied as well. My husband is even thinking about getting a vascectamy! We've discovered that birth control (the pill and the shot) don't work on me since I've gotten pregnant on both. So I will get fixed and he may too just to be on the safe side.

Congratulations! I never got my tubes tied. My husband has a vasectomy. Men should opt to have this surgery performed rather than having their partners go through major surgery. A vasectomy is done in the doctor's office under local anesthesia. There is less recovery time too.

Congrats on the baby. I had my tubes tied right after I had my four year old. I felt that three kids were enough for me. I can't tell you about during the precedure because due to my blood pressure, I was put to sleep. Afterwards was not to bad I had discomfort for about a week or so. I was so happy that I did not have to get staples again. They did 3 small incisions that were covered with strips. I now regret having it done because I would love to have another baby. I actually had the works, cut tied and burned. Make sure this is something you really want because now I can't have another baby unless I pay big bucks.

Congratulations. My third child is due Feb 13th. I was going to have my tubes tied first but my doctor talked to me about a procedure called ESSURE. This is a non surgical way to "tie your tubes" so to speak. What they do is implant a special coil into your tube. Your in and out the same day and it is a non invasive procedure. After a few months scar tissue develops around the coils making it impossible for anything to penetrate through. You will need to be on birth control until your 6 month check up to make sure that your body has created enough scar tissue. This is the option I am going with. Good luck to you and your new little one.

congrats on the impending birth of your new little boy. I have not had my tubes tied but my sister has and has regretted the decision ever since. Her periods are heavier and are more frequent (every 2-3 weeks) very bad period pain. I suppose there are risks with any surgery. I know though from her experience that it is not something that I will be doing....there are now too many other options for birth control

I've not had my tubes tied, but I know many women who have. I know of three or four women who conceived babies soon after having their tubes tied! And I hear from women who regret it because years later (and with different circumstances) they desire another biologic child. I almost had my tubes tied 22 years ago, I had an appointment and the night before, I drempt I was undergoing surgery and I was watching myself from above...I saw my doctor make a mistake and ignore it, and in the dream, time flew into the future and I had lots of adhesions and other undiagnosed problems from the sloppy job the doctor did. So when I woke up in the morning of my scheduled surgery, I cancelled! And I'm glad I did because within a year my now 20 year old daughter was conceived. I'm glad she's here...

Congratulations. I don't know much about tubes tieing, so good luck with that. I wish you the best in that and with your baby. I can't wait to have a boy, I just had my daughter six months ago.

Congrats on the baby. I had my tubes tied 6 years ago i had no problems they will do it right after the baby is born while you are still in the hospital if you want or you can wait 6 weeks which is what i did they burned and tied the ends. Also medicine is advanced enough that they can go in and undo it if later in your life you want to have another child i known a couple of people that has done this with no problems . Pain there is very little it is just a small cut they make i was back to work the day after i had it done and had no problems.

How many children do you have so far? Only you know if this is right for you because if you know for a fact that you don't want anymore kids then go for it. But if you have the slightest doubt about not being able to have more children then don't do it just find you a good birth control menthod like the IUD its good for 5 years.
