If you wana go for free softwares then AVG is the best solution..
Otherwise you can opt for McAfee or PC-Cillin or BitDefender (the best)..

I have AVG as well as Norton in my computer. But what I will suggest is to go for Bid10 defender,as I had read somewhere that it is the best one. There was also given the comparision between many anti-viruses.

What anti-virus you want to use, is based on what your requirements are!
A software that has not worked for someone, does not mean that it will not work for you, no! It can work for you since your taste and requirements are different!
There is NO great or bad software/anti-virus. Whether it works for you or not, is all about your way of using it and your requirements.
I will advice to try different piece of anti-virus, then see for yourself which one works for you..
But it's always useful to note certain things about comments, for example, someone said that a certain anti-virus use a lot of resources like memory.. so do take things like this into consideration..
All the best!

i use QUICKHEAL and ADAWARE. quickheal is quite good and so is adaware. u can download adaware from softpedia.com or download.com for absolutely free.
haven't used kaspersky. i think there is nothing called best. we all need to maintain a good health of our systems by ensuring proper scanning at regular time gap and get rid of all scrap and burn useful data to CDs. Defragmentation is also a must, i do it every fortnightly.
make sure all this being done and then scan it with a good antivirus. ur computer will rock dihearted!!
