Does anyone here suffer from phobias? I have for many years, which can lead to severe anxiety, stress & depression. Share your phobias with us, how do you cope when confronted with this fear? Does it make every day life unbearable for you?
I know it has done for me, but i truly believe sharing these fears with others, & learning how we manage to cope can help.

I used to have very bad social phobia...fear of being around other people...but help of my therapist this has gotten a lot better. I also have a fear of bar soap, and the fear of being alone, or dying alone. I also have a fear of toothpaste, which I am working on with my therapist right now....I have yet to do my homework for our next session. I also fear spiders and most insects.

I have had a phobia of worms ever since I was a little girl and was riding my tricycle, I saw a worm and I tried to avoid it and fell of my bike, I ended up having to have 18 stitches in the back of my head, I was only three, I can't even leave the house when it is raining, I have tried many times to overcome my fear, I have even tried picking one up with gardening gloves on, I still can't do it, when I see one I go all hot and feel dizzy, like I am going to pass out and have palpitations, I know many people will think I am very strange but I just can't help it. I love gardening but that is also ruined for me because if I see a worm I have to run into the house. Any suggestions on how to beat my phobia would be really appreciated although I don' think I will ever get over it. :)

Good morning (at 5:30pm, lol)!
new phobia: I'm totally petrified of this ice storm that's coming. So far all we have gotten is freezing rain, but holy mother of God, I'm not looking forward to all that ice weighing down the power lines until ultimately the lights will go, which means my pc will go 20 minutes afterward. I'm not sure what you would call this phobia, but I think it boils down to not being connected to the outside world and that's when "they" can do whatever "they" want and get by with it.

I have an intense fear of men who wear cats on their heads.
This fear tends to cause me to freak out and start throwing things at the Cathead in question as well as whipping and kicking the Cathead. This violent spree tends to ease my fear of the Cathead then I cope with his presence quite well for a bit.

How do you possibly cope with something so traumatic, Kitty?
Come hide under my hair and see if that helps...

That's quite coincidental, I've developed a phobia of sponge since joining myLot, especially the red variety. Fortunately red sponge is quite rare & a safe distance away from me. But I still feel quite insecure when it's around on here, as I tend to get these bruises developing when & get too close.

Many people laugh at this one - but I am totally terrified of thunder. It is called brontophobia I believe. I can't even see lightening or hear thunder in a film or on TV without feeling sick, and in the past I have tried hypnotherapy and various medication without success. the only good thing for me is that I live in the UK were we really only get maybe one storm every year - and even then I know they are not as bad as those in the States or many other places. They still incapacitate me though - I have to be sent home ill from work and I just cry hystericaly til it's over.

How awful for you, I'm in the UK too & New Years Day just gone we had a bad storm, 12 midnight on the nose, the second the clock struck midnight there was an almighty bang. Thought it was fireworks at first, but it was the start of a storm. it doesn't usually bother me, but it was so loud even I got spooked.

I have a terrible phobia which controls my life. I HATE rodents. Mostly rats and mice. I know it is a phobia and there is no foundation for the fear but I just can't help the way I feel. I know when there is a mouse or rat nearby, I can "feel" their presence. I can't go into places if I feel there might be rodents there.

It's amazing just how many peoples lives are controlled by these fears. No matter how unlikely facing the fear may be, it is always there in our minds that they may confront us at any moment. Sorry to hear this causes you so much hardship, & you have friends here to talk too if you need to :)

I suffer from agoraphobia, in that I'm afraid of crowds and crowded areas. I'm fine in open spaces just with the crowds. It is actually known by several names but agoraphobia is the most well known one. It can make life very difficult for me. I usually go to stores at off times, I have trouble going to doctor's offices, even driving can be rough if the lanes are crowded. I just try to avoid the situations if possible. I hate having to leave a place suddenly due to a panic attack. There have been times when I haven't been able to avoid the situation. Then I try to stay as far away from others as I can. Like at family gatherings during the holidays. I went outside a lot to get away from everyone.

I really2 afraid with darkness. Cause when I was a kid I often saw something that unusual/freeky sometimes at dark part of my house. Especially at night. I don't know if it's my own imagination or what. Cause actually that time my house is haunted, in my opinion. So, until now... when it's night I neve turn off the light on my room. I really afraid with the darkness. But Sometimes when the electricity is blackout at this city. I prefer to sleep inside my blanket:)
