The listing goes as follows
10 karat
14 karat
24 karat
10 having the least purity - 24 having the most. That is why 24 is generally more expensive (and will give less people allergic reactions). Often enough, 10 and 14 karat golds are actually gold-plated copper (or something of that likeness, of a lesser value than gold).

The carat (abbreviation ct) is a measure of the purity of gold and platinum alloys. In the United States and Canada, the spelling karat is now solely used for the measure of purity, while carat solely refers to the measure of mass weight (see Carat). As a measure of purity, one karat is 1/24 purity by weight:
X=24*(Mg/Mm)
where
X is the karat rating of the material,
Mg is the mass of pure gold or platinum in the material, and
Mm is the total mass of the material.
Therefore 24-karat gold is fully (99.99%) pure, 18-karat gold is 75% pure, 12-karat gold is 50% pure, and so forth.

Carat is the hardness of the metal. Gold is one of the softest metals around. in the case of 14 that would mean that the gold in question is 14 parts out of 24 real gold. The higher the number the more pure the gold. like a 9 carat gold ring would only be 9/24ths gold the rest would be made up of other metals to harden it. So when you hear 24 Carat gold then the item in question is solid gold and not mixed with any hardening alloys.
