My husband has sleep apnea. He never realized he was stopping breathing repeatedly during his sleep. When I first met him, he didn't believe me when I told him. When I finally talked him into going to the sleep study clinic, they recorded his breathing stopping 325 times a night! It can be very hazardous to your health, causing stress on the heart and other organs due to lack of oxygen. People with sleep apnea usually have high blood pressure. My grandfather had a seizure in his sleep due to lack or oxygen to his brain from sleep apnea. That's before he was diagnosed.

I never had this happen to me, but my newborn son had it, which was extremely scary. We discovered it when we had a monitor that told us if there was no movement in 30 seconds, and he started sending off alarms and we would go over there and he wouldn't be breathing. He had to get hooked up to a monitor for awhile, and while he set that off at first for a little bit, he now is perfectly fine and sleeps great!
