Tell Me About Being Black

First, I have to acknowledge that I don't know whether to use the term "black" or "African American". So, I appologize if my use of the term "black" is offensive but I chose to use it because it is simply the fastest to type. I am a free-lance writer and am writing a piece on the culture of being black. As you can see, I am a white girl and I live in the suburbs but would like to know any fresh perspectives on the pros and cons of being black. Does it define who you are? Does is dictate who you are able to be? Please tell me anything you have to offer - I would love to hear from you! A good friend of mine (who happens to be black) tells me I am gonna get some nasty responses to this request but rather than take my request as an opportunity to give me a hard time, I challenge you to use this as your chance to let the world, especially us white chics, know what is floating around in your head - both the good and the bad. Thanks in advance!!! If you would like, give me your permission to quote you and I will name you personally in my article. Otherwise, I will create ficticious names to correspond to the stories. Feel free to email me privately with your response if you don't want to post here. ask.lori@yahoo.com Thanks again!
