I think Viggo , who is medium height , slender-faced with a villain look in his eyes is no where near the character Strider , who was tall , grey-haired ,majestic, and very strong . in the story Aragorn was obviously stonger and of higher nobility than Boromir . This and the fact that Peter J didnt show the scene where the Mouth Of Sauron come out of the black gate and shows the company the mithril-coat of Frodo ,these are my major criticisms of the great trilogy . what do you think ?

I actually loved the way he portrayed that character. I can't think of anyone that could do a better job. He is an excellent actor, and can play just about anything. I think he showed the fact that he is of higher nobility just great. Yes I am annoyed with the fact that they didn't show alot of the important scenes. I also understand that they had to use their best judgement on what to put into the movie and what to keep out. I think some of it I would have done a little different, but for the most part they did an excellent job.

Hi ,serenae ! I appreciate your opinion . I think they did an excellent job ,too . It wasn't easy either , I guess the movies more than deserved the prizes they won .

Absolutely right, Strider should have looked battle hardened even gaunt, in the book there is a point where he asks Frodo, "I look foul and feel fair," indicating that possibly he was even ugly. Viggo looked far to gay in my opinion, I couldn't really imagine him enduring hardship without worrying about his hairdo. Sean Penn would have made a better strider with possibly Russel Crowe as Boromir all the best urban

Exactly ! Thats exactly what I was thinking , I just couldn't put it into the right words ! I mean he is a great actor ,but he just doesn't look "kingly" enough ,even for a king without a throne ! I always thought Strider would look more like Sean Connery(the way he looked in Entrapment ,not when he was younger in the Bond movies ) , but he is too old now .

Oh, Sean Connery, I hadn't thought of him, he would have been excellent in the role. all the best urban

ok I only read the books once and this is my take. In the movie Aragorn is in fact "old" just because he has no grey hair it is still indicated that he did not age as fast as "humans" because of his linage. (someone already mentioned this). In the film is it shown he is of higher nobility than Boromir. And as for the Mouth of Sauron, have you seen the extended version of Return of the King? Think you may find your beloved charactor there. as it wont let me upload a pic of him, try googling him under images.

I disagree. I think he protrayed the character very, very well. I couldn't imagine anyone else playing the role or doing a better job at it. I don't really recall the gray-haired bit but that's not that big a deal to me. There are a few things I would have liked to have seen too. But the movies were really long as it was. I think Jackson did a great job.

From reading the story , he was an extremely old man ,yet because of his high lineage , he didn't age as other men .The grey hair part was my impression , like a 45 or 50 year old man without the erectile dysfunction (aging issues) . As to the missing scene of the Mouth of Sauron , it should have been shown because: #he was a different kind of creature (not a Ringwraith, not an Orc,not a Man , not an Elf , not even a Balrog ) ,it would have been interesting to see how the director would imagine him . #the desperate final onslaught on the Dark gate would have been more complete if the FULL cause of their despair was shown , which is in addition to their inferior numbers, was the certainty Frodo had fallen when the Mouth throws the Mithril vest at them . I agree wholeheartedly Peter J did a great job , I just thought it could have been better ,but then sitting at home and imagining how everything could be better is easy for everyone I guess ,not like doing the real thing .

I agree too that it'd been interesting to see. I got that he was really old but I just assumed (maybe because I had seen the movie first) that they aged differently durring that time. That because he had elf leneage (right?) it was conceviable to have looked younger than he actually was or just aged slower.

viggo mortensen - viggo mortensen as aragorn in the movie 'The Lord of the Rings'
I don't find Viggo's face slender, he actually have a strong jaw plus his voice is perfect for his character. I liked him better at 'The Lord of the Rings' than his other movies, he's better looking with brown hair that brings out his masculinity than his natural blonde which makes him look more like a fashion model than a hero.

Hi ! That's exactly what I was talking about = "..more like a fashion-model than a hero.." - he has an (elongated) jaw , not very broad ,gives him a "slightly" feminine look , look at pictures of him in the movie with Gwynneth Paltrow and Michael Douglas .

i think he made a pretty good aragorn! but i'm speaking purely based on the movie, i haven't read the book, but i think the movie is great and all the characters are really perfect in their roles especially aragorn.

Hi Vega !! I appreciate your opinion . I might have been biased from watching some older movies Viggo starred in . He just reminds me of a criminal , that's all .I think the best character portrayals were : Elrond !!,the 2 wizards , Arwin (whoa) , Eowyn(I love her) ,Theoden ,of course the Hobbits ,Denethor , the wraithes and their flying beasts .

I forgot Smeagol ! You can believe or not , but he turned out to be EXACTLY how I imagined him when I first read the novel 16 years ago (without ever seeing any artwork about the characters) #Galadriel !! she is so majestic !! # The Elves in general (especially the ones sent by Elrond in The Two Towers )
