I have not taken the time to learn linux or I would be using it. It is a much more stable and secure system, it just has a much higher learning curve than windows.

well i think, The answer depends on your needs. Windows is the best choice if you want the convenience of virtually guaranteed compatibility with just about anything out there. You can walk into any store, and grab a peripheral or piece of software with reasonable assurance that it will work with your system. Microsoft Office is the de facto standard business application suite, so if you need absolute compatibility with your PC at work Windows will most likely be the one for you.
GNU/Linux is free software. Free as in freedom, meaning it respects and maintains the users' freedoms as defined by Richard Stallman. I use it becuase I hate proprietary standards. While there are fewer commercial software out there for it, there are free alternatives to every app you can imagine. Open Office or KOffice for your office suite needs, Kopete or Gaim for instant messenging. Konqueor, Firefox, Opera, or ven Lynx for web browsing, Kdevelop for your IDE, Too many media players to name (kaffeine, juk, amarok, Totem jsut to name a few) The Gimp or Krita for photo editing, Ekiga for video conferencing. There is so much software for GNU/Linux.

I have both, windows and linux. I tend to use the linux more because its closer to me. Most people that prefer windows over linux say that linux is too complicated and that it wont run the popular programs that windows users are used to because its not compatible. Linux usually has their own versions of programs, which may end up being better or worse than the windows version.

If you are a dedicated programmer use linux.I advice u to do that because it uses far less resources than windows and offers free several programming tools.
If you like playing games listening to music or watching movies use windows because is much easier to use than linux.

I can't tell which one is better because I haven't really used Linux for a sometime. I've been using Windows eversince I started using a PC. I have heard that Linux is more scalable than Windows and is much stable. As for now, I'll stick with Windows and will later upgrade to Vista if the fuss about it is resolved (software incompatibilities).

no doubt linux is better
coz
1)It is free for home users..
2)It is open source....so as it goes thro hands of many ppl every bug gets fixed and it is bcoming better everyday...
3)The range of free software that is available for linux is really huge...
4)It is slowly bcoming as user friendly as windows....for example take a look at the latest editions of suse or ubuntu and certainly u will believe me
5)It is highly secure...
6)It is highly stable...
So my friend if u ask which is better certainly linux is better
but for a non technical user who does not know wat is an OS,but just want to run his business and other things and watch movies, hear to music all in a simple way without any great technical knowledge then windows is the starting point...but after getting used to windows he can switch over to linux....
