If You Don't Want Answers, Don't Ask

I swear, I don't always complain.
But! I am so sick of people posting rather serious questions and claiming they want advice, and then once they've been given advice they just dismiss it all and go and post another discussion on the same topic.
If you don't actually want advice, don't ask for it. And don't post these serious health questions - physical or mental - just to get more responses. It's not fair to the people who take the time to give you detailed, informed advice.

Oh I know. they ask for advice or opinions but there is no sign what so ever that they ever recheck the discussion. No indication that they read or like what is stated or even if they hate the advice given. I've seen a few do that. It's very aggravating and frustrating for those of us who read through it and try to help them with what we know or feel about a situation. It's even more frustrating when a week later you see them post the same question. Excuse me, you have six pages worth of responses already why ask again? Makes you want to reach through the computer and give them a smack on the head.

Advice is free. I can try and help someone but it is their descion to accept it or not. I firmly believe that he/she has to WANT the help.
A perfect example is one given to my mother by my father.
My mom worked near a train station and there were alot of transients. My dad would always pick her up on his way home.My mom was feeling especially sorry for one guy that did not have a coat and was all over my dad to give him his coat and a few dollars for a meal.
Just to prove a point my dad did give the guy his coat and offered him a job as well. He then found the guy a furnished suite and paid the first month rent. He got him a good used tv and a few winter clothes.
My dad said if he was a good worker, he would give him a raise and a better position.
This arrangement lasted untill the first payday. The tv was gone, he'd sold most of the winter clothes to another guy at the boarding house and no one ever saw or heard from him again.
Point Made?!?

i agree, sometimes I spend alot of time writing an answer, and also asking another question.. go back a week later only to see that the person who started it didn´t even reply.
I have a rule, I willr espond to ALL myy comments on the discussions I start, also rate them and hand out "best response" I think it´s only fair for me to do this, since people give me their time and effort..

I have never really thought about it, but you are right. It is sad if people are picking those topics and writing false situations just to get more responses out of people. Hopefully if they are being truthful they are checking up on their responses even if nothing is indicating that they are. I guess give them the benefit of a doubt.

Sadly, this is just how mylot is, as long as there's money involved people will do whatever they can to make the most out of it and they don't care that others taking it seriously. most probably they just copy some serious discussions topics from other sites and post it here and move on, they never check back because they are not interested at all, they even may have never read the topic they copied and pasted :(

I have to agree with you. I have not seen it yet on mylot as I am a new member, but I've went through this on other sites such as the yahoo questions thing and other random forums. I thinks its just something you have to put up with when dealing with a wide variety of people. Your always bound to get the immature people, the drama queens and the people who are just never wrong.

Well said my dear. I agree with you. But people are strange, and do strange things. It appears to me that you have a very high intelligent level. Most people are average. 90 to 110 IQ. You seem like a 130 to me. Am I correct? That is part of the problem with a lot of the discussions. Do you understand what I am trying to tell you, can you read in between the lines?

I'm with you on this one. If you already know the answer you want, then you really don't need to ask the question. Also, not everyone will give the same answer, or share the same opinion. You said it perfectly. Thanks you for speaking out!

Heh! LOL, I am totally agreed with you. But some times aren't it like any one of here really need help? What he/she will do if he/she has no friend in his/her life? Some people really do these sort of things to get more posts but some of them are really in need, that's what I think. I do help them rather when I saw its verry urgent, apart from this I hate those peoples who discuss questions regarding physical and metal!

I agree. I have spent time giving advice where I thought someone was asking for it. When returning to check, I find that this discussion has received some 90 responses, and as far as we can tell, the poster has not returned to get any of the advice.
Is it wrong to assume he is not interested? I don't think so, especially when he posts another discussion which is almost the same!

I agree, if you ask for advise you should be ready to get some responses that you agree with and some responses that you don't agree with but you can't just discount them all and then make another post that is not fair to the people that are answering your question or sharing a life experience with you. :D

I guess it all boils down to this. There are about three types of people that seem to exist on mylot. The first are the ones who want to make money, those are the ones that write questions designed to get a large amount of responses. The second type are the ones that answer those questions. They write out good responses because they want to help others. This is the group that I identify with, and would wish to be thought that I belong to. The third group is the one that is here for the conversation aspect. There may be a fourth group that is made up of a combination of the three. Comments?
