Name brand stores vs thrift stores

Which do you prefer shopping at name brand stores or thrift stores? To me, I like name brand stores I can find better quality clothes. Thrift stores are too nasty and most of the clothes look like crap to me. Of course, you want the best deals at a name brand store. I was at Aeropostale a couple weeks ago, I found some great clothes for 70% off after xmas.

I love good quality, name-brand clothes, shoes, and purses, but I usually wait until I can get a good sale. You might want to reconsider your thoughts about thrift stores, though. Some of the Goodwill, AmVets, and Salvation Army stores have really decent clothing for dirt cheap. A lot of times people donate name-brand, expensive clothing that has never even been worn- a lot of times the tags are still on. Who can explain why "rich" people buy things that they don't even want; it must be nice to buy things on a whim and then just decide that you don't want it! Anyways, these types of items are found commonly in the thrift stores, and I have bought some high-quality clothing there.

I've never heard of an AmVets having a thrift store. Where are you from that they have them? I'm an Auxilliary member too. I guess I could ask them.

Are you kidding....thrift stores rock!!!!!I don;t know why you had such a negative experience but I have Liz Claiborn, TOmmy Hilfiger,Channel, Gap, Lands End,Thomas RibKoff,LL Bean, etc etc hanging in my closet for 12.99 or less. When I go in all I do is look for branded clothing.....in away it has become a hobby

Thrift store, all the way. I don't know what thrift stores your shopping at, but all the clothes I get look brand new and are brand name. I've gotten Liz Clayborne, Tommy Hilfigger, Eddie Bauer, Abercrombie and other name brand clothes for five bucks a piece.

I like namebrand stores. Mostly because my thrift store isn't that nice. But if you go to different places, some of them are REALLY nice and they have name brand clothes from Ralph Lauren and such that still have tags on them. I give my clothes to the Salvation Army and I sure hope no one thinks they are nasty as they are all namebrand clothes. I don't give clothes that have stains on them. I figure if I don't want them, no one else will!

I go to thrift stores sometimes and your right most of the clothes they have should be thrown out but, you can find some good buys I found a whole bunch of aeropostale clothes some with tags and some without and I only spent 10 buck and got two bags. I usually do go to name brand stores though

When I want something really nice I will go to a department store, but often I find my everyday clothes at a thrift store. If you have the time to really go through the racks you can find some amazing deals on clothes that are perfectly good. I agree that they are sometimes a little nasty- but nothing that some good detergent and a washing machine can't fix!

I like shopping at both. For things like work clothes and jeans and decent looking clothes for my daughter I'll go to the thrift stores. Kids grow so fast that it seems like a waste of money to buy something name brand for 20 dollars or more that she's only going to wear a handful of times before she's grown out of it. I also like to go to thrift stores for items I can use in my mosaic artwork. But, when I want something brand new or something really nice that I can have in my wardrobe for a long time, I go to mainstream clothing stores, but I still look for the best deals because I don't really care about whose name is on the tag.

The only name brand I buy is called Big Dog. The only real reason is because they have great clothes for bigger people. They go all the way up to XXXXXXL I'm not that big though I just take a 2-3XL. When buying name brand that's all you are really paying for, is the name. Offname brand is just as good if not better sometimes.

its gud to shop at branded stores bcoz we can find variety of clothes dere comparin to thrift stores..but when budget matters we hav to select thrift stores.but some garments giv more comfort as the branded one gives.so my policy is shop for the best one at a reasonable price, and dont be brand concious.

hey ladytiger, well as far as my choices go, i prefer branded stores... just for the quality we get, the choices, the variety and of course the brand name... living in bangalore obviously gives me access to a lot of factory outlets where i get really good quality products at a fraction of the actual price... m pretty sure there are plenty of good thrift shops around i just havent been able to find one till now...

I definitely prefer thrift stores. I don't buy anything that is ruined and I always check for stains or rips, but you can find top of the line clothes for very cheap. If I do shop at a name brand store it would only be for a sale like you mentioned, a big discount.

I go to name brand stores because for one thrift stores probably dont have my style and I dont like used cloths. Nothing agianst them or the people who go/work there, but I just dont care for them. Some of the stuff I have seen in thrift stores makes me wonder... like underwear...

Thrift stores and discount stores can be a good thing. I don't go to them as much as regular stores, but they're nice to browse around in.

I personally can't afford name brand clothes from a store..even on sale most are well out of my price range. I usually shop places like Wal-Mart, Bells Outlet and places like that. I will go to some thrift stores, some in the area have great clothes and great prices. I do agree some are just nasty but not all. I also get clothes from friends who dont' want them any more or from Freecyle. If they don't want it and it's something I like I'll go for it.

But if you think about it those name brand clothes have been put on by people there to. The only difference is the names on the tags and the price

Thrift shops all the way. I refuse to pay full price for anything. I've found awesome deals at thrift shops, as well as clothes I've picked up through freecycle.org so I don't care where I go. Plus, the name brand stores either don't carry my size or if I find my size, I don't like the style. I like jeans that have already been worn in a little. I would never buy underthings (I can't believe it's even legal for them to do that), shoes or socks, and certain miscellaneous items. When I go shopping, my best friend is Clearance!!! My sister and I always say that!

whether name branded stores or thrift stores, who cares? people will not know where you bought your things anyway [unless they saw you buying!]. i noticed that some of the items i can buy from mall stalls are also found in thrift stores outside the mall. so its a matter of choosing the best one with best quality. i have a friend who always go to "ukay-ukay" [clothes shop, which are either used or unused, usually came from other countries and sold at a lower price]. you won't believe me if ill say that the shirt she is wearing is worth Php20.00 [if US$1=Php50, then it would be $0.4]and is similar to a Php250 shirt! as ahe says, its in the way you wear it!^^

The only thign good about thrift stores is that they are cheaper, but the quality is worse and the appeal is weak, besides cost is the last thing I think of when I go shopping.
