Deep cleaning

How often do you go through your home and deep clean it? Getting rid of things you no longer want or use? My husband took the week off this week so we could deep clean the house. Well one of the reasons anyway, the other was he just needed to get away from work for a week. Anyway today was the first day we did anything on it. My back is killing me. I got my dresser cleaned and gone through (I got rid of a lot) and our clothes in the closet done. We try and do this once a year, but don't always get to it. Or don't do as through job as we hope to this time.

Maybe once a year or so, my family does something like that. But me and one other family member are basically pack rats who don't have an easy time getting rid of things that we've collected *laugh* Still, it's good to go over the house every so often so that things don't pile up even more than they already have done in the meantime! LOL ^_^ I hope that your back feels better soon :/ I used to have a lot of lower back troubles, so I know how not fun back pain can be :/ I had my answer written out better than this and Mylot lost it for me, lol... so here goes trying to post again! *laugh*

I am a pack rat big time too. I am trying really hard this time to be really good though and get rid of things. The one thing I will not part with though are my books. I love my books. Let them pile up please lol

We try for at least once if not twice a year. I was pregnant from Apr-Dec of 2006 so it did not get done. That means it will really need to be done this year.

I do this twice a year, in the spring and in the fall. It seems to go along with packing up the clothes for one season and getting out the ones for the next. I always put anything that I haven't worn in the bag to donate to the Goodwill, and throw away a lot of stuff. It's also a good time to get rid of piles of stuff in drawers and closets and change the shelf paper in closets and the drawer liners. I love when everything is clean and organized. One of my friends always teases me that my basement is cleaner and better organized than the rest of her house!

To be honest I do not think my family does that exactly. My mum often cleans the house but it is big so would take so long to spring clean so we never really get round to it. But i clean out my room like that every month or so. I hate things being unorganised and untidy.

We dont pile up stuff in the house for long. If we have to throw something, or give it to someone,we often do it soon. So that way the house is less cluttered and neat. My husband cannot stand too much stuff lying around in the house...he likes the house to be clean all the time.

i do it every couple of months , i feel great once all the clutter is bagged and gone . the worst culprit in opur house is magazines , i hate throwing them out , also clothes ,i can be cruel with my husbands clothes but not my own ha ha.i tend to spend a full day at it and then slowly the mess creeps back up again . i do the same with the deep cleaning

We too have a very small house. Its only around 700 sq feet and we have a lot of stuff, so it makes it hard for us to be able to keep things we want in our house.

damn, how lucky are you!!! After he gets done at your house, have him drive up to mine. Hey are you donating all that stuff to a good cause? We just moved here and I had a huge Yard Sale at our old house. Got rid of a TON of stuff, and made over 750 bucks too. YEAH, there was a lot of STUFF!

Wow is that EVER a lot of stuff you had to get rid of lol. Yea anything we don't sell will go to Goodwill. Who knows how much we'll have once we have everything gathered come spring/summer. Depending if we keep the desk & maybe couch until then too we might make a pretty penny too.

We try to do it once a year too. But we hadn't done it in awhile so this past summer we had to rent one of those big dumpsters and we hauled out a lot of stuff. My boyfriend had rented our house out before him and I moved in here and a lot of the that persons stuff was still here,so that all went too. There is still lots of stuff to get rid of as I am a pack rat. But I have to do it again real soon because I am trying to organize a benefit yard sale for my grandson and his family, hopefully this spring. I am not looking forward to it as I hate parting with stuff but if its to benefit my grandson, it should be easier.

Well I go through every month and find things we don't want or can use. Clothes the kids grow out of, toys they don't want, etc. Then I donate those items. As for the deep cleaning, I do that once every two months. Both of my girls are asthmatics, so I have to keep the dust down in the house. Moving everything out and giving is a good wash helps, including the walls. You will be surprised how much dust collects on the walls. As for your back, try doing some back streatches and a hot bath. It helps SOOOO much. :-)

We TRY to clean our walls. They are very gross because our house is VERY old and we have really bad baseboard heaters. They blacken the walls. And it doesn't always clean off. But I just read that the laundry soap we used can be used to clean walls, so we are going to try and use it this week hopefully and see if it works any better then what we have tried.

I don't do this as often as I should but the last time we moved (in August) I did a HUGE purge of the house and ended up getting rid of several minivan loads full of stuff. I really try to keep our "stuff" to a minimum anyway. If it hasn't been used in a year I try to get rid of it. The exception to this is our books....books we love stay forever.

Pack rats unite! LOL I'm really trying to break this habit, but for the life of me I can't do it. Anyway, I deep clean about once a year as well. Sometimes about mid-year I'll do a not-so-deep cleaning, still getting rid of stuff I should have thrown away ages ago.

I think that everyone is a pack rat in their own way. There is just some things that hold dear memories and people tend to keep them!! But, it is always good to do some deep cleaning once in a while!! :D

Is there such thing like deep cleaning? Oh my God I learn new things everyday. I usually I stumbled over things to observe that they are old. Uusually when I go out and it's an important event I get rid of 2 pieces of clothes and buy other 2 instead. That way my closet never "changes"! Should I also throw out the books and stuff that I don't need anymore? Or just give them away to poor people ? I can do that with my clothes too. Hip,Hip, Horay ? :)

As a matter of fact, I just did this over the weekend as I getting rid of clothes that I do not wear anymore, cleaned out the shed, closets other belongings. I have much more room now so I am happy. Hope that your back is better now.

Well so far we are on a moving schedule every two years. So our house gets a deep cleaning every two years. I wish I could do it once a year. The poor trash people get all that trash! We are doing our deep cleaning right now. The movers come tomorrow to move us.

I do this quite often due to the fact that there is always a houseful of kids at my house. a 9 month old a 3 year old a 5 year old a 8 year old and two sixteen year olds also me my husband and his father. the constant crowd and the mess thats left behind really stresses me out to the point where i say to myself "everything is going in the garbage" . Usually I pull out the fridge the stove and washer and dryer about 1 time a year. I do everything. my husband helps me pull the appliances out and then walks away. I shouldn't complain because I love him.

That is a hard task!!! I find though that if you do it once properly and get rid of all your clutter, providing you continue to keep strictly only things you need and use, You will find that it becomes alot easier. Also doing more often helps ..that way you have less work to do. Good luck with it anyway!
