Ok, my husband has only used ebay a couple times. Yesterday he placed a bid for a Internet card to use with one of our laptops.
He used the system to automatically raise his bid when outbidded and was the first person to bid.
Checked on it today, all fine, still highest bid. No other bid. Well, shortly before the end of auction the seller sent him an email.
Said his bid was cancelled cause he did not have enough feedback, That sux..
I think he had a friend place a bid, under ours and they won. I checked out the winning bidder and I just think he did not get enough bids and will probably put it back up for sale soon.
Well, I did send him a message..(really had to vent).
So my question is: how does one get feedback without the opportunity to purchase?
Yes, he has a paypal account and all. I have won items, usually for my grand baby, but never had a problem. So I logged on and just bought the *** thing from another seller that offered *buy now.*
This kinda makes one not even want to use ebay. Guess it was his choice to not sell it to us but if that was his policy he should have it in his notes or sent email sooner. Any suggestions...

Yeah some sellers do this due to problems with newbies in the past. I recently had a person with zero feedback bid on an item of mine and then never paid. She did send me one email saying that she wanted to pay but couldn't figure out paypal and then said that she could barely figure out how to email because she doesn't do it often. I responded and told her it was fine but to please pay. Never heard from her again. A seller should clearly state on the auction the amount of feedback required to bid on any one item. If they don't that's just bad business practice on their part. I wouldn't attempt to do business with them again. Shame on them if they are a power seller.

This is awful of this person to do this to you, it really does not help the rest of us out when we are trying to be honest and make money. I would contact ebay and file a complaint as my understandings is those of us who are sellers can not cancel an auction unless some specific things happend, it does not sound like any of these have happend here. I think that this was rotten of the person to do and you should get ahold of them to help you file a complaint. Good Luck

Some sellers want a minimum of 10 for example, but they usually state that in the item description. I've seen sellers post they will not accept bids from buyers with zero or a negative rating. I would suggest you just keep up with your normal rate of bidding or buying on ebay. The Buy It Now is a good way to help. Just make sure you do what you say, pay promptly and leave positive feedback. As you find sellers you really like, save them under "favorite sellers" and do business with them. Another suggestion to help you find the good sellers is to look for a 99% positive or better feedback. Read through the feedback comments left by other buyers and that should give you an idea of how or bad a seller is too. Hope these tips help!

I've been a seller on eBay for 7 1/2 years and sold about 1500 items and I've never put any restrictions on how much feedback someone needed. I've never had a problem and I've sold more than once to people with 0 feedback scores.(Most sellers will) Just today I was reading a seller's listing. There was no description at all for the item, just 2 pictures but there were about a dozen paragraphs of rules. Included was something like "Please do not bid here if you have had a negative feedback in the last 90 days". I couldn't believe it. The seller had a rating of 341 at was in effect saying that she would not sell to someone with a rating of 2,000 if they got a neg in the last three months. Even if it was retaliatory and even if it was the first neg....Needless to say I did not bid on little miss "341"'s listing. It's ridiculous.

I don't think his reason was very valid to do that and he had ulterior motives. He did not want to sell it because he was not getting the money he wanted for it.
If I were you... I would lodge a complaint against him with eBay. Sellers are not allowed to retract their items unless they have a valid reason.
He could have got away with it if there were multiple bids and he was concern of not getting paid by you. In that case he could have sold to the second highest bidder.
But when you are selling... it is not the amount of feedback that the buyer has which is an issue... it is its negative feedback. Sellers will refuse to sell to you if you have negative feedback... and if you don't buy the item a couple of times after winning the bid... eBay will ban you.
The amount of feedback you have is only an issue if you are starting out as a seller. And there is nothing you can do about that. You just need to keep on trying to sell in order to build your feedback.
Cheating the system by buying things for one cent won't work either. People are not stupid. They don't only look at the number... they check your profile to see what you got the feedback for.
eBay run a very tight ship and do its best to keep everyone happy. They have been very courteous with me in the past. My advice to you... is to report him.

The reason I started this discussion was to get the opinon of others about his/her actions. We use ebay so rarely. But this did get to me. I need the item cuz my aetena broke and I have had it so long, no warranty, Called Sony Ericison and they told me that would be my best bet.. I did buy one tonight. I may report him/her. I do believe that the seller just wanted more money.. Thanks

Ok,
As a seller and buyer on Ebay myself, I would say that if the listing didn't say anything about not accepting bids from people with less then a certain amount of feedback they should NOT have cancelled it. I would most certainly complain about that to Ebay. There are many many many sellers out there (myself included) who WILL take bids from new people. Ebay is a great place to shop .... IF you are willing to take a bit of risk and remember that you are dealing with other individuals (mostly) and that they are not perfect either. Of course there are a few on there too that simply don't care to list right, thats where reading the feedback they have comes in. Those type tend to get comments from others about such stuff. Good luck to you (and your husband) in future dealing on Ebay. Please don't let one bad incident keep you from using it!

Thank you for your comment. I have learned to do just that. Reading about the seller, I have never had problems before. Venting here on MyLot has made me feel better. And getting views from others. It does take all the fun out of it.(that seller) If I lose to a higher bid that's ok. But I felt I was treated unfairly. And I really wanted that item. Ya know I bought it from another seller and only paid about $5 more. Think I will stick to bidding on kids stuff.. It is much more fun...

I am a seller on Ebay. My advise to you is to report this to Ebay right away. They have strict rules with the sellers. What was the feedback on this seller? Now, if there was a "buy now" listed, then who ever hit that, the sale goes to them. Now, as far as feedbacks go, your husband should try some small bids on something just so he can get feedbacks. I have never told a customer of mine that he had no feedback, so I was't selling it. That is crazy. Please turn him in to Ebay. Don't let him get away with it. Good luck. M&M

I have not reported this yet. I did keep the emil from the guy. What a jerk. I have bought before and never paid attention to the feedback/rating of a seller. Just expect everyone to be fsir. Hai,don,t worry about feedback first don,t go for highly priced item.If you don,t have any feedback the seller may think that you are new you may not be willing to buy the item. For that first buy small items get some feedback it is easy.In the present case you can report the seller to ebay but another thing is he has the right to cancel the auction if he thinks the price of bidding is lower than expected.

I personally block bidders with a feedback score of -1 or 0. In my experience, these have been the only bidders that were non-payers for me. In your case that may not be true, but I personally don't have time tracking people down for payment when someone else always wants to buy my items.

That's the downside of ebay. because sellers have the power to cancel your bid. so if they dont have enough bid, they'd cancel and tell you white lies why they did it. why dont they just tell the buyers the truth right? I emphatize with you coz sellers in ebay give you a hard time to gain feedback. just be patient and be precautious too coz not only are there conceited sellers but also scammers as well. take good care now!

If you still have the guy auction on your page you can go in to his ratings , I think but not for sure you can still make rating on him for what he did . You can complain and they will try and settle it, something like this can cause some mean words so thats up to .

The least you can do is repost him to the ebay forum as a bad seller.
It`s the only way to keep the ebay community safe and working well.
What he did is out of order and if everybody behaved like so ebay community wouldn`t be as big and as strong as it is now.
I moved into my new flat last August and I used ebay to furnish it all.I had one difficult case but all the other ``buys`` were very easy and I saved myself a lot of money.Write to Ebay direct about him. They will advise you how to go about it.

I agree that there some questionable sellers on ebay, but there are a lot of honest sellers on ebay. I sell custom made doll clothes for the last 2 years. I am not sure you can do anything except maybe report him and see what happens. Just don't let it spoil your shopping on ebay. Lots of nice, friendly sellers out there.
