what does mylot rating 500 means..?

once i tried to paste one question. I fould to my surprise that i can paste only when my rating is above 500. But i dont see any rating associated with my profile. Please let me know what is this.

Your rating is the number in ( ) next to your name. They instigated the no psting unless you have over 500 rating to help deal with spammers.

I think tell tells the number discussion i ve taken part into. Then how does it help protecting from spammers. I meant once they exceed 500.
