what does it mean when there are red marks on my dog's skin usually on his belly and legs? He is also shedding alot. Is it connected? I tried changing his food, so far no change although its only been 2days. Im waiting if there will be any change on the skin when i chnage his food before I call the vet. do any of u have ideas?

my best guess would be one of two things. Either one your dog has developed a allergy, or two, they might have hot spots. Either one can be easy diagnosed by your vet, and is very easy to take care of. It may be just a matter of getting a lotion or ointment that cost only a couple of dollars to simply just changing his food. Either way I would contact your vet just to be on the safe side.

sis, have your dog checked by a vet immediately. it's hard to assume on things that happened to our dog since they can't talk to us. we don't know what's going on inside them. so better, consult your vet asap. my dog also have some sort of allergies with chicken before, his skin becomes reddish and scratches almost all the time... he had even less time to get sleep. a day after, i called up my vet and when she went to my house, my vet immediately told me to confined my dog, coz the symptoms are so true and evident for mange. :( my dog is confined for 2 weeks, it's just so nice i have known my vet so well to feel what i feel for my most precious dog. my dog also got some allergies with cement, and my vet manage to cure it... shedding is normal for all dogs, this is their way of changing old fur to new ones. dogs also shed especially for hot days... they also shed in their heat period.

That's scary. I have contacted a vet already to do home visit since I cant take my big Lab anymore on a taxi. But I am yet to schedule a day for her to come since I am saving for it still and his meds plus I have been out alot lately. I wish it isnt serious. But I really will have him checked soon.

Dogs generally shed once or twice a year and at that time their fur becomes very thin. This is normal and nothing to worry about. Just thier way of making place for new fur. The rash could be caused by an alergic reaction or if he came in contact with a dog with a contagious rash. Try bathing him with cool water and some antiseptic. It will cool his skin. I doubt that the food would suddenly affect him by giving him a rash

Il try bathing him with a new shampoo. I kinda just bathe him once in a week since they said its good for the dog's coat that way.

I'm glad you tried the food change, and are now calling a vet. Sounds bad. Maybe mange or an allergy or worse. Keep us posted. Good luck dear.

I don't think you're supposed to bathe a dog once a week. If you wash them too much, like people, it strips the natural oils out of their skin/hair-causing dry itchy skin. That may be what the problem is. Cut back on the baths and see if that helps any!!

Hard to tell without seeing it, or a better description of it. Could be fleas and the marks you're seeing are from him scratching. Or could be an allergic reaction. Check around the yard, was he laying on something different? Did you recently change his diet? If not, I wouldn't switch his food. Is he eating and drinking normally? Acting normal? I'd call the vet to be on the safe side.

He is all normal apart from the scratching he makes and the red stuff on his skin. He is always inside the house and goes out only for his walk with me. I only changed his diet when i noticed all the marks and increasing scratching he makes. I thought it was food allergies since i heard most dogs are allregic to chicken flavored dog food.
