Democracy, with all its shortcomings is still far superior to any sort of dictatorship, benevolent or otherwise. The right of people to govern themselves is precious. No matter how benevolent, when someone sets themselves up as the ultimate authority over the lives of people, abuse of their rights is sure to follow. In a dictatorship, were there is no parliamentary oversight over the dictator, corruption is almost a certainty. Democracy may not be the best form of government, but no one has come up with a better idea yet.

They are equally horrible.
"A democracy is nothing more than mob rule where 51% of the people may take away the rights of the other 49."
~Thomas Jefferson
A constitutional republic is best.

Once you have a dictator, what is to say that he will remain benevolent.
Remember that absolute power corrupts absolutely!

Democracy counts the people. It does not weigh the people. Democracy is dictated by the people and all of the people do not think by same way. They differ each other. they could not agree on a single thinking. In such case benevolent dictatorship is better than that of democracy.
