Who buys stock online?

I have been trading with an online stock program for a few years now. It is mostly penny stocks. I have had some great gains, enough to make it a worthwhile project. It is something that I enjoy doing, and it is a way to make some money with out leaving the house.
Every one talks about earning money online, but no one brings this up.
My husband buys lottery tickets weekly. I use the same amount of money for my stock that he uses for lottery. I have made a whole lot more money than he has. WooHoo!
It is a hobby of mine. Does anyone have the same hobby? Is anyone interested in discussing the stock market? Let me know.

I would so love to hear about what program you are using. My hubby recently opened an account for us to use and we have already been in with 3 different penny stocks. One we are losing in while the other 2 are doing ok right now. The one we are losing in has had a whole lot of drama going on with it's executives. So at this point we are just holding out to see if anything pans out on it. I usually visit Investors Hub Boards to see what people are currently saying about the ones we are in.
Anything you care to share?? Would love any advice you have to give since we are so new to this and really don't know the best way to go about it!!!

I am registered with Sharebuilder.com. It is great, the cost of trades are low compared with other sites.
My biggest decision maker when choosing which stocks I buy-I read the companies financial statements, the quarterly, and year end. I look at all the SEC filings, and figure out how much of the stock is owned by the company execs. I stay updated on the news concerning the company. I have a few newsletters sent to my email that give me suggestions to stock, but I do not buy until I research the companies myself.

i love to invest in the stock market, some times short term day trading. i've been doing it for 2 years, and do it online. I have never bought penny stocks, it is confusing to me. i've also been burned a couple of times. right now i'm kicking myself for selling Sketchers, i bought it at 17.00 and sold at 29.00, and now its at almost 35.00! I have sirius radio right now, and i'm hoping the stock merges with xm, so i can finally make some money on this dog!!!

I bought sirius also, back in 2002 or 2003, can't remember exactly, got it at $1.17 a share. I have been holding on to it, and it has goine as high as $7, but is usually hovering from $3.50-$4.50. I still think it was a good choice to buy it. I have more than tripled my money even on a bad day. YeeHa!!!!

I think this is a great way to share the recreational money! If you like to invest in stocks and he likes the lottery, what a deal.
I play fantasy baseball every year and my wife takes the same amount of money I spend on that and has fun with it. she usually goes shopping for stuff.
I do invest online, but not stocks. I usually sign up with mutual funds online, which are long term investments. It is not so much fun as it is a practical way to accomplish a rather mundane task.

I think one of the best ways to start is by playing an online game. Investopedia.com is a simulated stock market game. The game sets a certain amount of "play" money and gives you the opportunity to invest it. The game plays like real trading, and you don't have to worry about losing everything you have!

I got started with a TD Ameritrade Account
www.tdameritrade.com
Also, look at www.motleyfool.com They have excellent news letters and information.
http://finance.yahoo.com/ Great location for looking up stocks
Something you might consider is Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) instead of mutual funds.
My experience is to look at investments in companies in the developing world (like in Brazil, Central America, China, India, etc....) As our own economy isn't growing nearly as fast. Not to say you can't make money here, just harder to do. Start reading. Also, don't trade in and out of stocks, work on finding a few good ones and hold them. I made the mistake of selling Apple earlier this year and I really shouldn't have. Hope this all helps!

I would love to know more about penny stocks. What is the program that you have and how much is it to buy and sell the penny stocks? I am interested in this if you could give us some more information about it. How much did you start out with and how has it been going for you?

I use Sharebuilder.com.
It cost $4 bucks to buy, $11.95-$14.95 to sell. Unless you become a paying member, then the cost is cheaper.
You are going to laugh at this one, I started with $20.00.
It has been going well for me. My portfolio has gained aprox. 22% for the year 2006, and contains stock in communications, green energy (such as solar power and ethanol)

I have used Sharebuilder for my main stock purchase. However, I would be interested in one that might allow penny stock purchases. Hopefully something that doesn't require too much initial payment.

Maybe I am wrong to say penny stocks. I say penny stocks, because most of my trades are about $1 a share when I buy, not $5 or more. I use Sharebuilder also, and on rare cases, you can get stock for less than $1 a share, but you have to search for it.

I am also doing online Trading since i joined India Bulls. Its good way to make money at home but it requires good knowledge of company and stock market situations. You need to plan out strategies before buying and selling stocks. Its not easy as it seems to be. I havent put much investment on stocks so i haven't gained yet. My consultant has asked me to invest some good money in order to generate returns.

Investing in the stock market is definately the way to go if you want to make some reasonable returns on your money. Its never been easier and cheaper than it is now, since there are so many discount online brokers. To get started have a look at:
www.sharedigest.com
Its a free site which is totally impartial, and offers advice for beginners to get started. Its still in the progress of expanding, so check back regularly for updates.
I reccomend a broker called thinkorswim - their link is on the site.
Good Luck

that's great to hear that you can make money from your trading. have you tried forex trading ? if you are familiar with stock trading, i'm sure you can easily manage forex trading.
the only problem is many forex companies charge a large deposit even just to open account, and there are many costs, fees, commission, etc. takes a lot of investment.
but there is a program where you can open forex account for free, and if you're beginner, you can learn to trade (they give you virtual money to trade with live situation).
there's no deposit needed, no trial period, no fees, and you can try as long as you like, or go into live trading immediately where you can trade with as low as $1.
i'm sure you've mastered trading techniques, so this may worth trying.
also, there's good money on the referral commission.
i can make money from referral commission for using at live trading, so i don't need to take from my own pocket ;)

Somethings I forgot to mention way back in the comment I left earlier is. Learn what the difference is between small cap and large cap stocks. If the stock is in the news a lot, you may have to carefully weigh if you want to put money into it or not. Many of those are popular because the big money traders and fund brokers are enamored with them, not because the little guy is likely to make money off of them. Do your research. Learn about Warren Buffett. Those were some more ideas I had for you. Again, hope it helps.
