I have been having migraines for 15 years and have never managed to find out what triggers them. I cut out caffeine, still got migraines, I stopped drinking red wine (that hurt lol) still got them. Sometimes I think they might be started by glare or some form of light source but this doesn't explain them all. What triggers your migraines?

Each person has different triggers. My neorologist told me to stay away from MSG (monosodium Gludamate) My head will get immediatly worse if I eat MSG. MSG is found in most commercial mixes such as hamburger helper, canned speghetti anad ravoli, canned soups and many other things. I make my own homemade mixes and they help alot also help on the food budget. I have posted alot of my recipes and will be posting more. I keep a headache 27 - 7 and have since 1986. Things that make it worse are changes in weather (cold), MSG, Bright lights (even the glare from snow), loud noises (have to keep things low at all times) Stress, many kinds of medicines. I have a low tolorence for medications. I have a long list of allergies and many more that make my head hurt worse. My neorologist has me to keep a planner and rate my pain on a scale of 1 - 10. 10 being the worst pain you can imagine. After I rate it. I have to think of my day and try to figure out my triggers. I have done this since 1986. Good luck and I hope you find the right triggers and can get it under control. Pain is not a fun thing to have.

I have never really taken any notice of MSG I will have to do so in the future. Fluorescence lighting I know has been a trigger. Thanks for your input

I get migraines from certain foods I eat.I've had migraines since I was a kid.I suffered all those years with them, and didn't know what caused them.Until I kept track of what I ate.And a couple days later I ended up with a migraine.I took imitrax for a few years that the doctor perscribed for me and it helped. But imitrax is not for everybody.

I started getting migraines and finally tracked the trigger down to a preservative called "benzoate" - it is in a lot of drinks and foods. Different things can trigger them for different people. One person I knew got them from MSG and another had stress as a trigger. I do know that bright light can make them worse but I do not know if it is a trigger.

Everyone here has given you some good suggestions. The other trigger may be the pressure in the air, especially during sudden changes in weather.

These days I think some tests are available to find your triggers. they test you for 300 things to see what triggers them. For me I know its thing like egg, beans or anything thats hgrd to digest and heavy or even food cooked and kept in fridge for a day can trigger the pain. I avoid these completely. I stillkeep having it on and off but now its very rare usually when I do eat such things at someone elses place or parties.

In my experience, migraines are infamously triggered by the cervical neck bone also known as C1 and C2 being out of alignment. In many cases in one or two chiropractic adjustments this issue is easily resolved by adjusting your neck gently and painlessly so you can relieve thre pressuer off the nerve to alleviate pain. I personally never had a migraine after 1997. I receive 1 chiro adjustment a month. I love the relief of my neck being adjusted and I have thrown away the Excedrin. Good Look to you.

I think its hormonal. I use to get them so bad when I was still getting a period. Since menopause they have gone away. Even seen a nerologist for them. She put me on inderal which really helped. It opens the blood vessels up and migraines are caused from constriction of them. Maybe you could ask your doc about that.

i don't think mine are hormonal as they can come at any time of the month....but maybe menopause wont be such a bad thing after all. I'll ask my doc about inderal. thanks

I pretty much agree with everyone. There are many varying factors that can cause a headache. For me personally it can be certain foods, light, loud noises, stress or my period. I don't take any medication for them besides tylenol. I take a nap and wait for it to go away.

You can find out about basic reasons of migraine in the Dianetics book. Find it here: http://dianetics.org Migraine is in most of the cases a psychosomatic illness, so physical treatment obviously will not help too much.

you may have astigmatism. you say that it might be started by glare or some form of lightform, so you might want to have your eyes checked. i have astigmatism and before i got glasses, i've been having headsplitting migraines practically throughout my life. if you feel like the pressure inside your head is building up and when you move your head you feel like fluid is flowing from one part of your head to another, then you might have astigmatism. hope this helps.

I am sorry to hear that you've been getting migraines for as long as you have been. I hope you find a solution when it comes to what may be triggering these migraines. I know that some of the things that may cause migraines are as follows: I know that a lot of foods help to trigger migraines, or at least this is what I have heard. Foods such as: Chocolate, Citrus fruits, tomatoes, potatoes, tea, coffee. I've also heard that to much or to little sleep helps to cause migraines to appear as well. Another thing that triggers migraines as well are things such as.. Stress, noise, menopause, irregular meals is another, exercise which can be a mix of to much or to little.. When it comes to smells.. I know that paint fumes help to trigger migraines, as does perfume. I know that weather triggers migraines quite often as well.. Such as high pressure conditions, or even hot dry winds, or even the change of season as well.. I know that when I used to work in a Pharmacy. They had these florescent lights throughout the whole store.. And every time I'd look up at them (not meaning to) my eyes would go all fuzzy & then I'd get a severe migraine. It got to the point where last year I had to quit my job because it was having a bad effect on my health.. I started getting non-stop migraines.. And it was very difficult for me to work when all I was doing was being in pain my whole shift.. I also end up getting migraines usually from stress.. As well.. If I become really stressed out I begin to get migraines very easily sadly.. So each person is different & has very different things that may help to trigger there migraines.. If these migraines persist you may have to go to a doctor.. And see what could be done to stop them from occurring.. I wish you all of the best..

Did you stopped eating chocolates as well? Chocolates is really a big contradict food for migraines. You should stop it if you're fond of it. It will only worsen your migraines.
