I have a tooth that is broken and I mean broken it hurt worse before it broke because of the nerve being exposed but now I basically have a shell of a tooth and over half of it is gone and it has a hole in it normally it does not bother me unless I get a sinus infection but now it is throbbing like crazy. Any suggestions? Home remedies? I have tried hydrogen peroxide and gargling salt water and putting heat on it but nothing is helping today.

putting the broken tooth into a glass of milk and leaving it over night is a well-known remedy for doctors in the east. by leaving a broken tooth in a glass of milk helps it get stronger as the tooth gains protein from the milk. After a night of it being dipped into a glass of milk the person can then push it back into place and it will actually stick back into the place without the use of medical glue bleieve it or not. hope this helps.

Believe me I do feel for you. I have a couple of broken teeth. They normally don't hurt but now and then they do. Problem is I have to go to an oral surgeon to have them removed and that is not in the budget right now so until they get where I can't stand them I'm not going. I should mention I don't like dentist at this point as well.
What I can suggest though are a few things. One the cloves mentioned by others does work. This is what dentists use with dry sockets. They pack it with bits of clothe soaked in clove water. So using cloves does work.
Another home remedy is peppermint extract. My brohter swears by this. Put some on the tooth and around it to help dull the pain.
Last option, if you aren't worried about the tooth being ruined (if you plan on getting it pulled anyways) take an asprin and put it right into the hole. Then let it disolve. It will taste nasty, oy will it, but it will kill the pain.
Good luck until you can get into the dentist.

I used to be a dental lab technician and just talked to a collegue the tooth is going to have to be surgically removed because the way it is broken there is not enough for them to get a hold of on a side or two....I will try the aspirin trick as I know now its a goner.

Oh my, I understand how much pain you are in. I don't know if this will work or not for what you are describing; but you can give it a try until you can get to a dentist. Oil of clove put onto a Q-tip and then swabbed all around the hurting parts should help. Please be careful when doing this as it is hot (as in cayenne pepper hot, but not that hot), I tell you this as a caution, it will not hurt you. If you can't use it directly like that, try taking some whole cloves and mashing them in a mortar and pestle, putting in a sterile jar, and pouring some boiling water over. Let it sit until cool enough to rinse over the affected area. I hope this will help you, dear one. ~Donna

I guess you need to go to your dentist for teeth x-ray if the pulp is still ok you can undergo root canal theraphy. If not then you must be forced to extract it coz it will eventually die and it will be decayed. You can even get infection by that. So you must not tried anything like hydrogen peroxide as it will irritate your teeth more and will surely get infection.

I am pretty sure a root canal is not possible and I have been lucky so far I did have an infection orginally before the tooth broke I never knew the peroxide would irritate it so I thank you for that info there is going to have to be a dentist visit soon thats for sure. They are going to love me as I have a broken root canal as well!

Try using grapefruit seed extract. It is a natural antibiotic. You can buy it from the healthfood store. My best suggestion is that you get to a dentist as quickly as possible. Tooth pain is a killer. If you want to take antibiotics that are intended for fish you can go to the pet store and get antibiotics tetrecycline and amaoxicillin.

the same thing happened to me 2 years ago and the only thing that solved the pain was goign to an oral surgen to get it removed. As a matter of fact after i got that tooth removed the one on the other side of my mouth broke in two and it just started to hurts about a week ago. So again I have made an appiontment to go see the oral surgen, tomorow. I don't like them nor does anyone else i know but they are the only ones that can releve the pain. When i went the first time it took about 30 second for him to drill into my jaw beside my tooth and pull the decayed ruin from my mouth. I hope that things go as well this time. Good luck

OH I can understand your pain. I too had a broken tooth. I broke a small part of the front tooth when i was a kid. Later, it started changing the color to light yellow. Then all of a sudden one day it was feeling sensitive. i could not drink cold water nor hot drinks. Later, I went to a dentist and he said that i need a root canal treatment and then i did the treatment and he put a cap also so that it looks like the real tooth. now i do not have any problem with the tooth. may be u should check with your dentist. surely he can find a longterm solution for you.

Very simple, go to a dentist and have the remaining pieces removed and have the cavity refilled

You have to get that tooth taken out. I have one that gives me the same fits from time to time. It hurt really bad until it was broken and since hasn't hurt me one bit. However with the part of the tooth that does remain I have to be careful what I eat and be extra careful to keep my mouth clean so that the bacteria do not attack my gums. I have made an appointment to get it removed and once I get though that I don't have to worry so much about my teeth being healthy.

Go to a dentist and quick! If the nerve is exposed and you have a hole in the toth, you are going to get infections over and over again. Not only will they be painful but they wll lower your body's resistance and attack your immune system. Go and see a professional and they will remocv the toth quickly and painlessly.

My husband when he broke his he went to the dentist and they did a bunch of crazy things to it and then added a fake part to make it look like nothing ever happened.
