I am planning to get my first digital SLR, I've had 2 digital cameras before but I've always wanted an SLR. Comments from professional photograpers/active photographers... Is the Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi a great buy or what?

I was in the same situtation as you. I bought the canon digital RebelXT. What sold me was the Rebel has the same sensor, and processor as the more expensive Canon Digital cameras and cost severla hundred of dollars less. I am looking to move up in a year or two but the difference in the cost of the camera bodies allowed me to buy some good lenses for the camera. The lenses will work in the next camera too. What you have to decide is which Digital System you want to get into. I choose Cannon but that is my prefrence. Nikon is also a very good system. New entries into the DSLR Market include Sony, pentax, olympus, Sigma, and Samsung. Read up on them and decide what system fits your needs. A good web site is www.dpreview.com they have some very good reviews.

Wow thanks a lot for the advice, it's gonna help me in my decision making. Good thing I still have time to decide upon it, that's while I'm still working for the money I'll be using to by my DLSR.

I've got an original Digital Rebel. I love it. The pictures are great and it's easy to use. I am hoping to soon upgrade to the XTi, I just have to make enough money to pay for it.
I've read several articles and talked to several photographers who all say that it's a good camera. It's a great price, too. Nikon makes a D40, which is lower priced, but it's not really a comparable camera. You'd have to step up to the new D80, and then the price is about $200 more than the Rebel.
I would highly recommend it. Now, you might find a dedicated Nikon person who wouldn't, but all indicators say the XTi and D80 are both tops in their class.

are those your photo shoots? wow, i compliment you. you have the eye for it! i am not a good photographer though i want to. the canon eos lines are very good a lot of budding photographers likes it. it depends on your needs, it may work for some and it does not for others.see what your needs are and you will know if the specs caters to what you do.

Hi smints i used to have the digital rebel its a good starting dslr. but you also have to consider your budget, use of camera, your future lens and etc. Me after a year to my dear Digital Rebel i end up with Nikon D80 because of lots features and bigger LCD. Hope this helps and good luck.

It's definitely a good buy. Canon dslrs have lots of compatible lenses to choose from in the market. try 400d
