Jewel DOES NOT belong on this season's American Idol

I was at first excited to see Jewel as a judge on this season's American Idol. After watching her and her attitude, I have lost my interst in her as an artist and I surely hope she has not joined the panel for the entire season. There is no room for her and her snobby attitude! There is enough of that from Simon. (Who unfortunately, as crude as he is, he is necessary on the panel.) Who agrees with me on this?

I agree! Personally, I've always imagined her to be kinder, gentler, and more down to earth, so I was really excited to see her, too. And then I changed my mind, also, completely! I was so repulsed. Ok, yeah, you're famous and a great singer, but does that REALLY give you free ride to be so rude to hopefuls? Nope, I don't think so. The attitude of American Idol could change drastically if Jewel, or others with her attitude, continue with the show! Simon is a great critic, I think Jewel was just a snot.

I am totally with you on that. I have always heard her rags to riches story. Also her folklore tune and lyrical sense seems that her attitude would match be the same. WRONG!! She is any typical Hollywood bimbo anymore, and I consider myself an ex-fan.....How sad for her crap attitude to persuade my decision...and of all things...Amercian Idol....

I personally have liked some of Jewel's songs, but I don't think that her voice is that great. She is mediocre in my book - so I don't see how she gets off being so rude to others.

Yeah not much of a character to her, but way too judgemental for being a mere "extra."

Oh my gosh you are so right. I was never a huge fan of hers anyway. I assumed that it was just for last nite? Is it suppose to be permanent? uggggh I sure hope not. ONE Simon is enough. I wasn't very impressed with any of the choices last night, but it appears they had little to choose from in Minneapolis? Should be interesting.... I am concerned that before the season is half over that Paula will have done something to shorten her time there, she has been a bit bizarre and rumors are she is addicted to pain killers or something??? we'll have to wait and see I guess. GReat topic! I love Idol.

I think she is just a guest judge. I know they previously have had guest judges but they were all nicer then her. But I didn't like her much either. Of course, I'm someone who doesn't really enjoy her singing anyways so it didn't take much for me to not like her personality.

But the bummer part is I liked her and a lot of the reason was because she was a poor small town girl who made it big. I didn't think she was a snob and tainted by Hollywood, especially because of the words she writes for her songs. I ws greatly disappointed to learn how rude she was. I mean come on, sitting on the panel as a nother female...even Paula Abdul dosn't present herself like that.

She was just a surprise judge for one night, I actually thought she fit right in with the rest of the judges. I still enjoy her and her music as well.

I think you are rushing to judgment way to quick. its one episode with what was mostly bad singers and people just trying to get on camera. I wonder how quickly there patience go when they are legitly trying to find talent but the producers still want to parade jokes in front of them to add fluff to the show. i think she's talented and has the experience to give her two cents worth. plus judging doesn't take away from why you liked her music. give it some time.

I think she was only there for that episode. I think last year they had different personalities in different location. I don't think she add any value to the episode so I hope they don't bring her back.

I don't think she added anything to the show last night, but an opinionated mind that was not necessary. I lost a lot of respect for her.

I thought it was nice to see a judge who's still..singing and knows what other people like to hear. She's an amazing artist in all aspects. However, she was just a guest judge..as far as I know she won't be back on for the next auditions episode, so you shouldn't have to worry.

Well I didn't even watch Seattle-how did that go? Was she there? I think she is an amazing artist too, but her attitude is what sunk my opinion of her.

I got the impression that she didn't necessarily want to be there, and that maybe the publicist is making her do it since she's on NashVille Star, just to get her out there so people know what she's doing...Then again, there weren't many performers to get excited about last night, so I can see why she took the attitude she did. :) I'm kind of looking forward to tonight; it's the Seattle episode, and Simon and Paula claim we have the worst singers in America here in Seattle. We'll see about that. I didn't think she was snobby; just seemed a bit bored. I'm still a big fan, though I think her first two CDs are better than anything she's done the past six or seven years.

I thought she did a pretty good job. One thing that I hope the producers will speak to her about is her tendency to be overly critical. She needs to remember that the contestants are amateurs, not professionals and that most of them have never had any formal voice instruction. Personally, I feel that she is Paula's replacement. Paula seemed to be suffering the effects of some sort of intoxicating substance last night (as usual). That, along with the rumors of her improper behavior with some of the contestants makes her a liability to the show. Did you notice that she she barely said anything last night? I'm waiting for the announcement that she has left the show.

Yes I did notice that Paula had been a little "under the weather." Oh well, as on original on th epanel, I think she needs to stay. Jewel was no good! Way too over critical and she just doens't belong there.

I don't usually watch American Idol, I always forget it's on...I did see it last kight, and I have to agree. Did you also notice that she did alot of asking, "I don't know, what do you think or what are you going to do?" If she's going to be a judge, she needs to make her own decision not just follow the others. If that's all she's going to do, they don't really need her there do they?

Yes, I noticed that too. She did not have much of an opinion but strongly voiced hers if she had something negative to say to someone's audition. I hope she doesn't come back....she was greatly disappointing to me.

LOL you capped on her pretty bad. But no to judge who hasnt put out an album in a while-look at Paula Abdul! Although I do like Paula. I did like Jewl but a lot of me liked her for the pure fact she was rags to riches and I really though she was a fol like singer who really had a good attitude and dispostion. I was proven very wrong with that last night.

I'm sorry, why should anybody care? why is this stupid show still on? I can't believe they still think this type of popularity contest is a good thing in the world. The networks have gone 'reality tv' wild to the detriment of good entertainment. If I want to watch a kareoke show, I can go to my neighbourhood bar and get entertained.

because it's entertaining for people interested in music. it's nice to be able to PICK who is going to get a record deal and who isn't. Rather than being handed artists, like we always have been, now we at least get a say in who makes it

OK honesty is always good but I thought she was rude and very indecisive. If the others judges didn't like the contestant, that is when she seemed to chime in with them and began capping on the contestants. I don't know-I hate guest judges, and I was ticked off to see her attitude.

I agree, and would like to add she seemed timid and unable to decide on her own. she agreed with everyone to quickly didnt have an opinion of her own which in my opinion hurts the person auditioning. she needs to be on something else. not judge material. no pun intended as an artist i like her.

Argh, it irritates me every time I think about missing last night's episode. We had an ice storm come through and it knocked out our power only 15 minutes into the show. Anyways, I have already heard so many rumors that Jewel is just one very rude person, but I wanted to see myself last night if it were true. I guess you just answered that for me. Thanks!

Chill OUT!! she was just being HONEST...after a day full of crap singers you would probably have the same attitude...but honestly some of these people...i really don't understand WHY they come on the show in the first place...the people who THINK they can sing...YIKES! she was kind to the first one. the one i really felt sorry for was the vocal coach who hot put down by Randy...i mean he wasn't bad but he wasn't idol either. i would trust whatever that pannel said because they REALLY know what they're talking about..

Yes, even though I am not from US I get to watch American Idol here. I watched it last night and I was shocked why Jewel is there. Yeah Simon is really crude, you know I was laughing last night because Simon always says to the leaving contestants, "the other door".

I don't know I remember how she used to act in the beginning.. She was more down to earth & kinder in general. And I feel like now fame has gone to her head! I personally was kind of shocked that she was going to be one of the judges. I am not sure if she is there to stay for the whole season, but I guess only time will tell. After seeing how she was acting to a lot of the people auditioning I was kind of disappointed in her attitude some-what.. I thought some people deserved some what of a chance.. Some is the key word here! . . I just felt that . . All they needed was a little bit of tuning. And I think for her not to give them a chance was what really shocked me. As she know's what it is like to start out in the business.. It's difficult & everyone could use a good vocal coach in the beginning.. I am sure she needs one sometimes as well.. I think there's a way to tell people the truth without needing to be rude, as well as hurtful. I didn't find her to be all to rude I just noticed the change in her attitude/personality. I liked her in the beginning but not so much now. I just didn't really like her attitude all to much & I just felt like she didn't belong in being a judge. I mean I didn't feel she was attacking anyone, just some of her comments turned me off slightly. I hope she was just guest judging though as I find I like the judges already.. And there doesn't need to be one more added in my opinion! . .
