I feel mothers of teens should guide them giving due importance for their thoughts.They should also be started for giving their suggestions in the house hold.While going in for some investment on tv,musicsystem, they can be consulted for their choice.They know better brands and technologies,plus they feel they are important in the home.This will make them more responsible.They should be treated as adults when comes to important things in the home,And kids by showering our love,as a friend while approaching their problem of anykind.This will help them grow as responsible children.

Those are great suggestions. I'm in the military and we move around a lot. I have a six year old. We ask him his opinion on everything and it makes him feel better. I hope when he is a teen we can use all the tips you just mentioned.
