What's with reruns for kids?

I watch Nick in the morning, b/c when I get up for work I don't feel like thinking too much. So today, I finally got sick of Nick. They've been showing reruns of Fairly Odd Parents at the 7:30 time slot for months and months and months. I love that show, but it's pretty bad when I remember the entire episode as soon as I see 2 seconds of it. I don't want to think a lot in the morning, but I'd like at least a little mental stimulation!
So what is with kids tv shows? How come they show so many reruns over and over at the same time slot? I could understand if they mixed it up and showed the reruns at various times each day, but to wake up everyday at 7:30 and see the exact same thing - it starts to get annoying. I started to think about whenever I have kids and how I would want them to see a little more variety than the that. So what are your thoughts? Is it that they just want kids to see an episode 10 times? Is it that the writers are lazy? Is it that Nick is too lazy to switch time slots every so often and put a different show on? Please share!
Ironically, even with what I said above, when Spongebob comes on at any time of the day I will watch it :) No matter how many times I've seen it! But that's about the only show I never get sick of.

Aside from Nick, Disney does that too. Difference is, it takes maybe a day or two before showing the rerun again! Maybe because kids just can't get annoyed seeing the exact same thing. It's what they enjoy at, seeing something they're familiar with over and over again!
hehe, besides, these channels care for kids' entertainment, not for adults!
oh, and i love spongebob too!

lol...I love spongebob too! I know what you mean though. It seems like they show the same 2-3 episodes over and over and over again. It's very aggervating for parents, but the kids love it and that probably exactly why they do it! You know how a kid can watch the same movie 100 times a day, well maybe that's their line of thinking. It's been long enough already though, time to change it up a bit!

I sick of them showing the same kids show first thing in the morning and then the very same episode later on in the evening.

That's a good point too! That is strange how they do that. At least have a different morning/night schedule! They really are banking on kids not noticing, but when I was a kid I rarely remember seeing reruns or the same show twice. Instead, we had only a few chances to catch each episode before we probably could never see it again!

I'm so glad I'm not the only adult who enjoys those 2 shows :) I agree with the first response, I think it may be because they're not making any more episodes of them-I don't know why they're great. They've both been around for several years now-like 5 or 6 years, especially Sponge Bob. Try emailing Nick and see what they have to say.

Actually, my kids watch Nick and Disney all the time. And personally, I have been sick of watching it too because it seems to me as if they are playing constant re-runs all the time.
My children have not even wanted to watch some of it anymore because it is the same thing every day. So, I have had to learn other channels to change it to for them.
Nick Toons...PBS...Animal Planet...Discovery Kids...etc.

Yeah I've been looking for other channels too! I always forget about Animal planet even though I love animals. Sounds like your kids are going to be smart if they are watching those channels :) If they keep watching Nick and Disney only, they may just start memorizing episodes and not really learning anything new.

They do this all the time. Our tv is always on disney or nickelodeon during the day. We have a 2 yr old and she loves those shows. I get tired of watching the same episodes, but sometimes it keeps her busy while I am trying to cook or clean.

I've noticed the same thing with Disney, which is the only channel our boys watch. Only certain shows have been bad about this, so it hasn't been real bad, but the more we watch the more I can talk along, word for word, with the characters. I guess they think kids don't need new stimulation? I know I get tired of seeing the same episodes, so I am sure my boys do. They've come out with a few new shows, though, so it isn't as bad.
The little music clips in between shows, however, are getting on my last nerve! There is one clip that show 2-3 times a day, and it's the same one every day! Makes me want to scream!!! There are a couple of others they constantly replay, as well, that annoy me something awful! You'd think they'd come up with some new epsiodes or shows to keep people interested.

I would question at this point that they might not be writting new episodes for this show.Watching reruns for months and months usually means that they are just rotating the shows that they have.I think that that process is called recycling.
So your only hope at this point is for the company to whip you up a few fresh episodes.
Or just watch sponge bob.

Yeah I think there are so many episodes and they play the shows so often they "loop".
I say this as SpongeBob is playing at my house - and we've seen the episode so many times I could probabaly tell you it word for word.
The thing is, my 6 year old still stays glued to the tv.
Kids love the same thing over and over again - it's sort of developmental, etc.
He gets mad if you turn off the tv in the middle of one, even if he's seen it before! :)

This is not isolated in the cartoon channels. This is going on for most of the cable shows. HBO, Star, etc. If you were the channel, how are you gonna occupy that 24/7 without recycling the shows? I think that's why you have a couple of channels for a certain genre. kid's channels for example, you have nick, CN, disney, animax, etc...

I have noticed that too and really there are so many programs now that there is no reason to have so many reruns. What I don't understand is why is the same show like say the fairly odd parents on like 3-4 hours in the course of a day. What they don't have any other shows to show. What really drives me crazy is I love the Boomerang chanel so I can watch the old cartoons and on that they have shown the same flinstones, jetsons, duck dodgers, and loony tunes all the time. Please put some more veriety on tv. It's not like you don't have enough to show. I wish I knew where I could complain but it wouldn't do any good.

I agree with how it is annoying that there are so many repruns. And it's not just Nick...Disney does it as well. Especially with their shows The Suite Life of Zach and Cody and That's so Raven. Who knows why? Maybe the writers are getting lazy..but it is annoying. I remember with the Suite Life of Zach and Cody for a while there was only like 7 episodes total and I saw each of them at least 5 times. It was annoying!

When i was younger, Nick had all sorts of good shows, now its just gone down the tubes...
I don't watch it much now, i'm older and it just isn't as good as it used to be, there used to be sweet shows on, but now its all like little girls who act much older, or the same old repeat shows like you said.
