My kids call me Mama for the most part. Sometimes they call me Mommy. My older son went throuh a stage when he was about 6 where he insisted on calling me by my first name - he said he thought it was more respectful. I tlkaed him out of it.

I don't know why kids get that idea, though it's usually when they're older. I remember when I started calling my mother Mom, because I called her Mommy in front of my friends and got teased. Broke her heart too. I call my dad Daddy once in a while, but not often.

I think it came from the idea of nick names in general. He doesnt like bing called nicknames himself, so he figured I woudlnt like to be called them either. And he thought 'Mom' was a nickname. It was a pretty cute discussion.

depending on the mood or feeling she is in my daughter calls me mom. she calls me mother when im annoying her or doing something she doesnt like or making her do something she doesnt like, she calls me mommy when other people are around and she feels insecure or when she hurt she calls me mama. once she called me jessica by my name and thats because usually people talk to er and refer me to her mother one day my sister was talking to her about me and said my name. so she said it thinking it was approaiate.

That's so funny! My father calls me by my given name but when he was made it's my first and middle names. My sister was always referred to by her nickname (for her given name, Mindy instead of Melinda). But watch out if he called both of our names together, SandraMindy....then you knew you were in for it!

That's rather formal...I know very few children these days that say mother, unless it's to say it sneeringly. It's also hard for younger children to say the 'th' sound, how long did it take for them to master it?

sounds like the woman I used to work for--she's 46 and still calls her mother "mommy" and refers to her late father as "daddy"

My daughter calls me momma. She always has. My son called me mommy until he was about 5 then it went to momma. He is older and I guess that is why she always called me momma.
I called mine mommy until 12 then I, too was teased my a play mate and decided I would go to momma. A few days before she passed she signed a card with the spelling- moma, I now see that it was a sign of things to come.

My children all call me mommy right now. When my eldest (she's twelve now) was around five, she called me mom one day and I was heartbroken. I figured I had a few years of mommy left. The thought of her calling me mom just made it seem like she was so much older and she was growing up way to fast.

My son says to me. "my dadda daddy" and often after he goes "ooooo...ghhhh" lol.
He's only 8months old but he's picking words up very well. He sometimes speaks to grandfather basic questions and answers but it's amazing to see him growing. He calls my dad "you" lol
Very cute. =)
Kudos!

I have 3 boys who are 7, 5 and almost 2. My 7 year old calls me Mom. My 5 year old calls me Mommy or Mom. And my almost 2 year old calls me nothing. :( Not yet at least, he can say some stuff and make noises of course and he can even say Ma Ma BUT not to call me Mama. I have hope though that it will be soon! :)
