Whats a good age to allow your child to work? My girlfriends daughter is 12 and she wants her to find a job this summer working. I have no idea where a 12 year old can work, but shes determined to find somewhere for her to go for the summer. I suggested camp, but my girlfriend says she has to pay her way just like everyone else does. Do you agree with this?

teaching a kid responsability is always a good ideea and i definately agree it's better sooner than later. only that from my own experience i think that until she's 14 or so (that's not even 2 years since she's already 12) she can learn the responsability of money by doing small chores around the house and be retributed. or maybe also to her grandparents house, to close friends and neighbors. just an ideea. most of my relatives and familly friends did it and it worked quite qell for them. good luck in finding the best solution to u'r problem

I started working at my uncle's business when I was 12 or 13, but then again I was with family. I'm not sure where a 12 year old can work, there aren;t too many places that would hire someone that young.

12 is way too young. children (a 12 year old is a child)should be kids, and have fun while they can. school should be the priority, and summer should be a break. I started working on the weekends when i was 14, but i didnt need to. and my mom didnt tell me i had to pull my own weight. thats ridiculous! go to camp, or play with friends. maybe once she turns 16 and can drive a job could be a possibility. I dont think know of one place that a 12 year old can work legally. so she probably wont find anything.

hhmmm up to soem extent is right but 12 years is too early to indulge your child in this.. i also prefer to sent child to summer camps so that she might learn soemthing more... there is whole age to make money...
