I have always had a very thick head of hair. Recently my hair has been falling out literally in clumps. I am not sure what is going on but it's really starting to freak me out!
I am wondering if it's because of PCOS/hormones or what the heck else it can be.
Have you ever suffered from hair loss? What happened? What was the cause? Did it grow back?

At first my hair just got thinner, but gradually it would fall out into my hand. I had doctors tell me it was stress, or that it was just one of those "female" things. After many tests they discovered it was Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, also known as Stein Leventhal Syndrome. If you suspect you have this, the best doctor to see would be an endocronologist. Do not wait, because although the hair loss can be stopped, it cannot be regrown.

I stopped taking birth control, I think that's the only change.

I had it happen to me. I have very thick hair, and it started coming out in clumps. It was due to stress and poor diet due to illness. I started taking a few vitamens - B complex and fish oil - and using LUSH's 'New Hair' shampoo, specifically formulated to stop stress related hair loss and encourage new hair growth. Cleared up the problem for me.

Hair loss bothers me too! I had such thick hair and it was so unmanageable that I used to wish I had thinner hair, now I think I hadn't wished for that!! I moved to the US a year ago and since then my hair loss has been more. It could be because of stress and also change in the water. Hard water does more damage to hair than soft water. Few things are beyond our control so best is to eat right and sleep right, that will relieve stress and in turn control hair fall.
