What is the longest you have waited in line to pay for groceries?

I went to Wal-mar today to get groceries. I got there around 10:30am and got in line just after 12noon. I finally got done checking out at 12:50. I was planning on going to Target afterwards and stop and get Subway but I didn't have time. I got home just in time for dh to run out the door to work. There were only 3 checkout lanes open on the grocery side (and 3 express on that side, 1 each on the GM side) and each lane had at least 8-10 people in it. It was crazy. I have never seen that on a Thursday at noon.

I think I may have waited for about 15 or 20 minutes, if a queue looks too long, I won't go in it unless there is no other option. I won't wait more than half an hour anyway.

Well there were no other options that day. Every register had at least 8 people waiting in line. Everyone had to wait for almost an hour to pay for their stuff.

You know whats odd? When i used to work at a walmart the general rule was, if a lane had 3 or more customers waiting they had to open another lane. It was all in the cashier training book.

Yeah--they don't do that anymore, lol. I know when I worked there they were constantly calling people from other departments to work as cashiers, meaning those people never got to finish their work. And they would call cashiers back to the front when they were on their lunch break and they would refuse to go because it was their break time. It was crazy. Luckily I was never trained to work the cash registers so I didn't have to worry about it.

I waited for about 45 minutes to pay my bill in Ralphs. They are not having self check outs and they will be operating with less number of counters after 8 pm.So we have to stand for a long time.I usually prefer to go to Ralphs before 8.

I've waited 40 minutes. That was ridiculous. The cashier kept stopping... literally stopping scanning and talking to everyone in front of me. And she took her good sweet time.

The longest I've waited is probablly a half an hour. I try to avoid Wal-mart on a Saturday, too many people, you could be there all day.

I live in Surfside Beach,SC about 4 miles from Myrtle Beach,SC and we are a huge tourist location, in our prime season is here a person can wait just as long. It is crazy!! During the summer, we go shopping at 700 am before the tourist get up.

Not as long as I have had to sit in the Doctors office haha. And its even worse if you have a crying baby too, they should let you at the front of the line haha. Not that the crying baby would bother me, just everyone else, I love a crying baby sounds like they are singing baby language :)

The longest I have waited in line to pay for groceries is one hour. I hate it because, I always think I have gotten in the fastest moving lane.

Not too too long. I waited in line for 30 minutes once. Another minute, and I would have walked out. I am pretty impatient.

Wal-Mart is always a long wait in line. It usually takes me at least 20 minutes to check out there. They are supposed to have a policy that when there are 3 or people in the lines they will open another checkout, but I haven't seen that happen.

I always do my shopping first thing when a store opens and before many other people have arrived. I hate going when stores are crowded even though I've never lived anywhere where the wait was very long.

Oh, I'm sure it always seems longer than it actually is, especially if I get behind a person who is asking a ton of questions, etc. I'd say maybe 10 minutes.
