That's so thoughtful of you:)I baked a cake for my husband's bday as well as our first wedding anniversary. Here is a very simple recipe for a good sponge cake. You can top it with any flavour store bought icing and decorate it.
Victoria sponge Cake:
175 gms powdered sugar
175 gms butter (1 1/2 sticks)
175 gms all purpose flour
3 eggs
1 ¾ tsp baking powder
1tsp vanilla extract
Method:
Sieve the flour with baking powder thrice.Beat the butter till smooth add powdered sugar.Cream well with the help of an electric beater till fluffy and bright.Beat eggs and add a little at a time and beat. Now fold in flour with a metal spoon if the consistency of batter is too thick add little milk.Add vanilla essence. Grease a cake tin (round or square 8x8) Bake in a pre heated oven at 360F for 25-30 mins or till done (check by using a toothpick)
It tastes delicious and my hubby loved it. Hope yours likes it too:)Take a look at the pic. This was the first time I baked a cake and decorated it.

Check out the web site familyfun.com. They have a lot of good birthday cake ideas. Some good ones for men would be a cake that looks like a bowling alley, a remote control, a tie, baseball cap. Depending on his interests, you might find one that he would like.

here is a great hint to add to any receipe you choose. Add one Large scoop of miracle whip to the mix, makes the cake soooooo moist and yummy.
